Hip-hop is art. Hip-hop culture is often valued less than canonical music and art. We hope to challenge that, and assert that Hip Hop is art and should be treated and celebrated like other types of music and art like classical music or still life paintings, studied in museums, etc.

This includes hip hop music but also even aspects such as fashion, mc-ing, graffiti (as seen in our costumes 🙂‍↕️), which is often viewed as “vandalism” even though it is another form of art and self expression. Hip-hop is a form of self expression that can take on many faces and forms unique to how an individual wants to tell their story — meaning there’s no one right way to engage with hip-hop, as long as it’s in the vein of showing respect to where the art form came from.

This can also include, and is not limited to, other club and dance forms that emerged and became antithesis to the mainstream like house, waacking, Jerz, etc. They are not the same…but share some commonalities in their value as third spaces and some movement qualities. 💚
