🔧 Brake Replacement Top Tips 🧰Tip #5: Brake fluid checks: keep it topped upBrake fluid needs to be checked and replaced regularly. It isn’t affected by distance travelled, but it does deteriorate over time. ⏳Conventional brake fluids are hygroscopic, meaning they attract and absorb moisture from the atmosphere. 💧Water vapour molecules are able to slowly penetrate the flexible rubber brake hoses or other rubber components in the brake system.Over time, there’s a decline in the boiling point of the brake fluid, increasing the risk of corrosion to metal components. As the volume of moisture in the brake fluid increases ⬆️, the boiling point will eventually reach a critical level where it is dangerous. ⚠️For electric vehicles, the highest DOT classification, 5.1, is often recommended. This is a brake fluid with a high boiling point and a very good viscosity index.Always follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation on when to change the brake fluid. If no recommendation is given, for optimum safety, the brake fluid should be changed every 18 months. For more information on the topics covered within our brake replacement top tips series, send us a DM and we will put you in touch with one of our technical experts! 👨‍🔧Learn more about Mintex brake fluids here: https://mintex.com/products/?lang=en-gbr by @mintex_official

🔧 Brake Replacement Top Tips 🧰Tip #4: Grease the right parts: Choose the lubricant that is best for the materialLubricants and pastes are crucial for maintaining the brake system. They help to maintain and service brake systems, protect them from corrosion and make it easier to fit brake components.BUT… Did you know❓ A multi-purpose grease could have a detrimental effect on the brake system. This is because of the EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) rubber seals used in the brake systems. These seals are used throughout the hydraulic system and in the guide sleeves of the brake callipers. EPDM rubber is durable, impermeable and high-quality, but if the rubber comes into contact with mineral oil or petroleum-based multi-purpose greases, its properties become ineffective – causing seals to swell. What should you use then? ☑︎ For lubricating cylinder working surfaces, pistons and sealing elements choose a product such as Hydra Tec. ☑︎ For areas of the brake, such as the brake pad guides, where temperature resistance and a high mechanical load-bearing capacity are demanded of the lubricant, use Cera Tec.❓❓DID YOU KNOW❓❓ Copper-based lubricants can have a negative effect on a vehicle’s brakes as it cannot withstand high temperatures. ♨️ In addition, the presence of the metal in the braking system can interfere with the magnetic sensors found within a car’s ABS and electronics. It’s essential the right lubricants are used for the right components to ensure correct maintenance and performance of the brakes. by @mintex_official

🔧 Brake Replacement Top Tips 🧰Tip #2: Carefully clean: A little extra time can save timeWhen replacing the brakes, cleaning is often the one tasked that can be missed – especially when time is limited. ⏰This small yet simple job can cause bigger issues down the road if forgotten. It also means you’ll spend more time later on trying to rectify the problem. One of the biggest problems that can occur is disc thickness variation (DTV), which occurs when the thickness of the brake disc is not even, making a noticeable difference when the brake pedal is applied. Our top tips to avoid this is: ✅ Ensure the contact surfaces and calliper are dirt and rust free.✅ Use a wire brush or hub grinder/over stud cleaning tool to remove any rust deposits from the hub.✅ Once clean, the new disc can be fitted. ✅ Use a dial gauge to check for any potential lateral runout – it shouldn’t exceed 0.07mm.✅ Enjoy your new brakes! 👌#BrakeTopTips #BrakeReplacement #Workshop #BrakeTechTips #MintexBrakes by @mintex_official

🔧 Brake Replacement Top Tips 🧰Tip #1: Correct fitment: Not all pads are the same – part 1 This may seem like an obvious point! BUT you would be surprised how many times we have had parts sent back or our technical experts called in to check a customer’s vehicle due to incorrect fitment. Each brake pad is developed to match the vehicle’s braking system, meaning not all brake pads are the same, and may require a slightly different approach when fitting.➡️ Directional pads or parts with a shim can be the biggest culprits of incorrect fitment.➡️ Directional pads ensure braking force is applied evenly across the disc.➡️ Installing incorrectly can result in uneven wear on the pads and disc, leading to reduced performance, noise, and even brake failure. 😮➡️ A directional brake pad will have arrows on the shim or piston clip indicating the direction of rotation; it should be fitted with the arrows pointing towards the front of the vehicle.➡️ The brake pads will now apply even pressure to the disc, reducing noise and vibration, and improving stopping power. 😅#BrakeTopTips #BrakeReplacement #BrakeReplacementTips #Workshop #Aftermarket #FrictionExperts #BrakeTechTips by @mintex_official
