You don’t need a concept.
You need context.

Beth & Dio’s favorite pastime ⛷️ isn’t a photoshoot idea.

It’s how they actually spend a ski day together.

Copper.
Dogs in the back seat.
Midday break.
More laps.
North Tenmile Creek with the pups before heading home.

I joined them for something they’ve done dozens of times.

That’s what makes this different. taken in Copper Mountain, Colorado by @miosison

Hey, I’m Mio-short for Artemio.
I was born in Michigan, now rooted in Colorado, and fully immersed in telling love stories through my lens.

Before photography, I worked in 6 years in biotech (got my M.Sc. too!) and 6 years paying for this education with wedding catering-two worlds that demanded problem-solving under pressure, building relationships, and delivering exceptional hospitality. Those lessons never left me. Today, they’re the backbone of how I approach every wedding-whether I’m leading my own team, second shooting, or even stepping in to support as a planner when needed.

Lacrosse shaped me just as much. Playing at the college and international level taught me grit, agility, and awareness-and you’ll often see me climbing, running, or balancing in places most wouldn’t just to capture the angle that tells your story best. I never thought biotech, hospitality, and lacrosse would intersect in one career, but here we are. I’ve photographed on horseback, drifting cars, and backcountry ski lines-with ice climbing next on my list. When you work with me, you get all of it.

This year, I’ve booked myself solid through December, traveling between Colorado, California, Michigan, Chicago, and Italy. I’ve built my life entirely around this craft-no backup plan, no safety net-just full commitment to the couples and teams who trust me.

For my couples: your wedding is never just a date on the calendar. It’s your story, and I give everything I have to capture it authentically, beautifully, and with the care it deserves.

For my industry friends: I know the power of a synced dream team. My goal is to elevate every collaboration, make your job easier, and help create a wedding day that feels effortless and unforgettable.

2026 and beyond, I’m focused on pushing further, refining my craft, and celebrating alongside incredible couples and colleagues

Shoutout to the talented people behind the lens of these photos. Love you all. taken in Denver, Colorado by @miosison

Beth is a trained dancer. So naturally, an ordinary father-daughter dance was never going to cut it.

What their guests didn’t know was that Beth and her dad had a surprise choreographed routine planned. And it couldn’t have been a better way to bring some energy to the celebration.

Night two of Beth & Dio’s wedding weekend brought everyone together for speeches, ice cream, and a whole lot of dancing.

From shotskis and bedazzled tattoos on the guests to Beth’s friends from the dance studio showing off their moves, the dance floor was anything but ordinary.

After an intimate first day, getting to see everyone let loose on Saturday was the perfect way to close out their weekend.

Beth & Dio, what a celebration.

Beth & Dio wanted a wedding surrounded by nature and their favorite people, without the pressure of fitting everything into one day.

At @outsideinnnaturehotel in Salida, Colorado, they had an entire weekend to celebrate.

Friday was intentionally intimate. About 35 of their closest friends and family gathered for a relaxed afternoon, a beautiful ceremony surrounded by nature, and drinks overlooking the property before coming together for dinner and speeches from family.

I had the opportunity to stay on-site alongside Beth, Dio, and their guests for the entire weekend. It gave me a chance to experience the celebration beyond just the moments I was there to photograph, spending time with their people and feeling like part of the gathering myself.

No rushing from one thing to the next. Just two people enjoying the company of everyone who came to celebrate them.

And that was only the first night.

Introducing the Caicedos.

I first got to know this family through Ciara and Juan’s ski engagement shoot, with Ciara’s sister @aislingsullivan along for the day. By the wedding, getting ready with Ciara, her mom and her sister felt less like meeting people and more like catching up.

Golf, skiing, and anything Western: they built the whole day around all three. Escort cards made as ski passes to their favorite resorts. A dress code that asked for Western attire. Golden hour portraits and swings on Hole 13.

Every detail had a reason behind it, and most of them were Ciara’s. More to come.

What intentional details are you incorporating into your wedding day?

May and Bryce got married on Labor Day in Vail.
At the pavilion, Aunt Julaine officiated and Ruby walked the aisle in a flower crown. Wood-fired pizza for dinner, a goose on the cake, a shotski, and a grand exit to “Me & Mr. Jones” before the whole party headed into Vail Village for the after party.

Bryce grew up skiing this mountain, taught May on the same runs, and this past winter they let us tag along on skis for their engagement session. Coming back to ride the gondola with them in their wedding day outfits, and watching them roll up to the pavilion in May’s dad’s Firebird, felt less like a job and more like being invited back into the family story.

Marin and James met at 2am in a hotel elevator during flight attendant training in Dallas. They lost track of each other, then ran into one another again a week later in the hotel lobby, both celebrating passing their tests.

When James proposed, it wasn’t on a rooftop or a beach. It was next to a WWII trainer plane he & his dad restored, the same kind once used to prepare Army pilots for combat. That plane wasn’t a prop for their engagement photos. It’s Saturday mornings time with his dad. It’s years of work between the two of them.

They let me into that world on this shoot. I watched what it actually takes to get that plane out of the hangar, the checks, the prep, all before it ever leaves the ground. And I understood, standing there, why they wanted their photos taken next to it instead of somewhere easier.

This wasn’t a backdrop. It was already their life, and I just got to point my camera at it. taken in Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport by @miosison

It’s been a lot these last few months. Full calendar, a lot of miles, back to back weekends. Also genuinely one of the most fulfilling stretches I can remember.

I recorded a note to myself a few weeks back, just talking out loud about what I’m actually doing here. What I kept coming back to: how much art can I put into your day, while still blending in like I’m just another guest. Because when nobody’s performing for a camera, that’s when the real moments happen. Your people stop noticing I’m there, and that’s the whole point of it. Editorial one wedding, full photojournalist the next, whatever the couple actually needs from me.

Last week asked a lot of me. But it ended at the @outsideinnnaturehotel in Salida, and that stay might be exactly what I needed before the next one. Quiet, slow, still.

Some days that means directing a whole scene. Some days it means staying so out of the way you’d forget I was even shooting. Either one, built around you, never a template.

At the end of the day you’re not paying me for hours, you’re paying for the trust. I don’t take that lightly.

P.S. the song on this post is “Going Home” by Tyler Childers. There’s a line in it about his mother saying he didn’t want to be an artist growing up, because artists are poor, and I sobbed the first time I heard it. Because by every measure that actually matters to me, I’m living that dream I had just a short few years ago. taken in RiNo Art District by @miosison

It’s been a while.

Jet-setting is part of the job, but it can be exhausting. I still catch myself laughing at the fact that people fly me across the country to make art and document the people they love most. My recent trips to Portland and Chicago had me reflecting on that.

For those who don’t know me, (cue the maid of honor speech) Wedding photography wasn’t always the plan. For most of my life it was lacrosse. Then genomics. A completely different future.

One thing has always been true: I’ve never been afraid to work for the things I love. Long nights. Tight budgets. Stretching every dollar to make the next trip happen. The work ethic isn’t new. What’s new is the feeling that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

This trip felt different.

Travel used to be about getting from point A to point B as cheaply as possible. This time I slowed down. The food, the neighborhoods, the people. The sushi. I started to experience these cities the way my clients do, and understand why they choose to celebrate their stories there.

In Portland, I spent time with Adrian and Becca, friends I met representing the Philippines at the 2018 World Lacrosse Championships. They showed me the city through a local’s eyes before I headed out to to see Cannon Beach, and then Mt. Hood for the ski elopement.

In Chicago, I reunited with one of my oldest friends from high school Mark. We picked up where we left off, between my engagement sessions and networking at @wipachicago

For my first years of traveling as a photographer, every visit to Chicago carried a sense of scarcity. This was the first time I walked those streets from a place of abundance. Not because everything is perfect. But because I built a life that lets me make meaningful work, see the people I love, and move through cities that have always felt out of reach.

Thank you to the couples who booked me without ever meeting me face to face. The engagement session is how I make sure we’re not strangers on your wedding day.

Check out some highlights from Q2 :)

Engagement sessions from these trips are coming soon.

The fastest way to fix “we’re weird in front of a camera” is to hand people something to do.

Katie and Bradley said it on our first call, almost as a warning. Two ski patrollers who got engaged at the top of a bike trail. So we hit one of their favorite trails and let them do what they already do together.

Their story started in the mountains. The kind of “we should introduce you two” moment that turns into “wait, we’ve already met.” Two ski patrollers, two dogs, a life in Alma, and a wedding coming up in Buena Vista.

Comment if their version of weird is the cutest thing you’ve seen this week.
