Local police targeting immigrants is not new — and city officials have always known.
Between 2007–2011, cities across LA County illegally used DUI checkpoints to target Latino drivers.
This wasn’t about public safety.
It was about impounding cars, generating fees, and making money.
Tow companies got rich.
Cities collected millions.
Cops got Vegas trips.
Immigrant families lost their livelihoods.
Courts later ruled these practices unconstitutional — but only after the damage was done.
We organized.
We took over city councils.
We stopped it once.
And we can do it again.
