“We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.” — Dolly Parton 🤍

A couple of hours before I heard the news today, someone very special to me looked at me and said, “Do you know who Dolly is?”

I said, “Yes, why?”

They were reading a book and read those words to me:

“We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.”

I smiled and pulled out this photo, getting to share the story of one of those experiences in my life I will never forget — having the privilege of meeting Dolly on set and spending time sitting with her and Dionne Warwick.

Two legends. Two extraordinary women.

I’ll never forget Dolly joking with us, her warmth, her beautiful demeanor, and especially her presence. She was such an example to me as a woman of what it looks like to carry yourself with poise, grace, humor and light.

She literally lit up the room.

Of all the days for someone special to me to bring up Dolly and read those words, just hours before I heard the news, it’s a moment I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

“We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.”

Today, those words mean a little more.

What a privilege to have crossed paths with you, Dolly.

Thank you for the love, laughter, grace and light you shared so generously while you were here. Your presence touched generations, and your light will continue through every life you touched. 🤍
