Mira Doura - First concert in Jardim Municipal, Funchal. It was an incredible night for us, with the nerves on the edge of the skin. For the first time we were going to showcase our new music that we've made together here on this lovely island. And if you couldn't be there at the concert, you can soon see some selected moments, filmed by our favourite Finish film maker and photographer @aleksivahapassi

These pics, among many, were beautifully captured by @m.afald.a.43. Can't wait to show you more of her shots from this night.

We are also preparing to announce some good news and big news for us as a new project. To be updated, so stay tuned.

Love,

This is @andreas_sidenius. He has a background in philosophy and is an active writer of poetry. Andreas re-entered music both playing with @emmycurl @post__fatima and as a co-founder of @escola_normal after nearly a decade exploring the academic world and the realm of literature. Born and raised on the outskirts of the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, Andreas interacted with the growing musical scene in the jazz, groove and experimental music environment and developed his own style and improvisational movements based mainly on unusual chord progressions with a Danish touch to the sound and a minimalistic design on the chosen notes coloring harmonics.

In @Mira_Doura, the Danish guitarist contributes with fresh, breezy reverb notes from Northern Europe with a touch and depth of Denmark's cold and somber seasonal climate. Inspired by the famous generation of Danish filmography that filmed with certain “dogmas” (“dogmefilm”) with various technical constraints, Mira Doura also challenges a limited but free creation, seeking to compose almost all songs in major chord progressions.

“The melodies and chord progressions contradict each other with emmy’s lyrical lines crossing the groovy layers of my reverb guitar. Like two cultures, emmy Curl's Portuguese and my Danish, the songs collide harmonically and transform into sounds with totally new and contemporary grooves. Despite the complicated harmonics in the background, the songs are easily digested by most listeners due to a pop, modern jazz and LA groove sound image designed to get people to relax, dance and celebrate the enchanting ambience with an appropriate local beverage in hand”

This is Catarina Miranda, known as @emmycurl . She has been in the music business for over 15 years and together with @andreas_sidenius she co-founded the international artistic collective, @Escola_Normal in September 2021. emmy Curl has moved across many styles of music and artistic expressions, impressing audiences across Europe with her breathtaking and sensational voice and improvised harmonic lines.

The artist from "behind the mountains" in the north of mainland Portugal has throughout her career as a professional musician explored ways she relates to specific places and their nature and city life. That is why her new band @Mira_Doura is dedicated to Madeira. The songs are reflections on the beautiful experience of living with nature and a unique, calm local community in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

“I have lived in many cities in Portugal and even in Copenhagen in Denmark where I met my partner. I've interpreted my emotions and experiences of where I've been and put them into songs, compositions and visual interpretations. I've had an incredible living experience in Madeira already, and together with my partner, we have created Mira Doura to express our extraordinary experience here on this wonderful island with friends and beautiful nature. The album is a celebration of profound relationships with the local population and the many internationals who pass through Madeira to enjoy and heal with the stunning nature and clear blue skies”

Mira Doura is now official! And we are very excited to share this new Madeiran band.

The music is co-composed by @emmycurl and @andreas_sidenius and produced together with @alexlikesmicbleed in @estudiovinteum and in the international art collective @escola_normal, our home, where we live with our son and a bunch of beautiful people: @pimoulax @johann.o.gunnarsson @x_desvio @monika.gawryjolek @silviaacescutti @sarahcelestine68.

We have created music that reflected our magnificent experience on this lovely island, inspired in Escola Normal jam sessions at @museu_cafe and our shows at @barreirinhabarcafe and in @coletivoinquieto in @municipio_camaradelobos and boosted by the many people that have surrounded us on our musical journey @ricardojtdias @apintopaixao @antelmocaboz @duailibi1 @luisp_caldeira @paulofgouveia @rafael.andrade.9400984

Big thanks to all our friends to support us getting settled in Funchal, and to be real supporting friends in sunny and cloudy times.

We can't wait to show you what we have got cooking.

Follow and share and let's kick-start this new adventure <3
