Wearing the 24 hour heart monitor, finally got some movement in again and it felt fantastic. I’m starting to have faith in myself not dying, slowly. This monitor is the final cardiology test I have to have but nothing has come up with anything. If nothing else, it’s been quite cool finding out my every metric these last few weeks.

Working on yourself is never easy, but it helps to have some time on my hands while I can’t exercise.

I’m trying to spend less time looking at the phone screen, more time sitting, breathing, reading, relaxing mind and body. Starting to feel like there might be something in it. by @miralifts

Baby steps for now. It’s all depressingly light, but each day is better than the last. I’ve booked the echocardiogram I’m waiting on privately. If that comes back ok then I’ll be able to train with some intensity again.

My blood pressure tablets give me insomnia, it seems. At least I’m getting to catch all the 2am football recently, whether in A&E or bed. Silver linings. by @miralifts

Because the whole hospital episode kicked off in the gym on Monday I’m going to need to take some time to get my confidence back lifting. I’m hyper aware of my heartbeat, my breathing, any sensations anywhere in my body. It was shit in hospital, I really don’t wanna go back.

Good news is BP is almost normal now and I’ve done a couple of sessions of exercise without dying. Slowly I’ll get there. by @miralifts

Who doesn’t love a hospital bed flex?

This week didn’t go quite as planned.

On Monday I was doing lat pull downs when i felt my heart do a huge bump, followed by lightheadedness and pins and needles down my left arm. I told myself everything was ok but took the sign to stop my session there and then. Convinced it was all nothing, I did the school run, went home, sat on the sofa and tried to stay calm. But every time I did anything I got dizzy, so, belatedly, I went to A&E, where my blood pressure was 192/126, crisis levels. Oops.

Spent the night on the waiting room chairs, and then another on a ward, being monitored, tested, medicated. They couldn’t find anything wrong so I was sent home with tablets and told to come back if it spiked again.

That would be the very next evening.

After taking one of the tablets my BP soared and I went straight back. Triage had my BP at 230/130, insane. I was given more of the same tablets to take. While the Monday staff had checked me every hour and medicated me immediately, the Thursday staff left me for 6 hours. I refused to close my eyes until the number came down, convinced I wouldn’t wake up if I did. Finally, at 3am, it was checked again and still high. I was given a different tablet which brought it down and sent home on Friday morning with some new medication.

Since then the BP has stabilised, albeit still high. I’m to go back for more tests and been ok’ed to train again gently. No comp for me in July, I need to get on top of this first.

Just… if you think something might be very wrong, don’t hang about. Listen to your instincts. I could have still been going around with stupid high BP doing intense training or god knows what, and who knows what might have happened.
