Jamaicans, Africans and other Caribbean nationals living in Florida will have an opportunity to enjoy an evening of “Jamaican culture “RISE” when the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica (NDTC) performs at the Miramar Cultural Center @miramarcultural on Friday, October 30, 2026. The production, titled “RISE: Rituals of Home, Heritage & Thanksgiving”, will feature traditional Jamaican dance, folk singing, contemporary choreography and live drumming. Hosted by Vice Mayor Carson “Eddy” Edwards, the event offers an alternative cultural outing for Caribbean families and residents during the Halloween weekend. The two-hour presentation will feature eight selections from the NDTC’s repertoire, combining established productions with newer works. Among them are “Ritual of the Sunrise” (1998), “Traddin’” (2013), “Home” (2025), “Ascending” (2025), “Bloom” (2025) and “Don’t Leave Me” (2013). A live drumming interlude will also highlight traditional Afro-Caribbean percussion. The evening will close with “Kumina” (1971), choreographed by NDTC co-founder Professor Rex Nettleford. The production draws from Afro-Jamaican spiritual practices associated with mourning, healing and thanksgiving. Tickets are currently advertised at US$45, US$55 and US$65, with purchases available through miramarculturalcenter.org. The event is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. at the Miramar Cultural Center Theatre, located at 2400 Civic Center Place, Miramar, Florida. by @miramarcultural
