Assemble a new compost bin with me in 30 seconds 🐛 for anyone who has been following my #compostingMBS series, you know that I’ve moved my project home and committed to creating my own compost piles in the process. How I am working the clothing into them is where things get really interesting, but I am saving that for a future post. First. We need an active compost pile! I used @cassmarketos’s book “Compost After Reading” as my guide, there’s a link to the book in my bio if you want to check it out. I have two identical set ups, and they have been heating to 140+ (IYKYK) ❤️‍🔥

Big girl bed time 🩵 thank you so much @softbloomkids for this beautiful gift—a safe, cozy transition from our @nestig Wave Crib. We never sleep trained our sweet wild child; the first time we tried, she cried until she threw up, and that was a hard stop for us. Love that we can lay down with her here without the dreaded transfer roulette. by @mirandabennettstudio

The bar in our public discourse has fallen so low that when the celebrities and corporate behemoths that profit from the masses while shaping our cultural reality are asked only to acknowledge genocide—not to try to stop it, not to use their resources to oppose it, simply to name it for what it is—most refuse.

That backdrop is what made my recent conversation with Marisa Mender-Franklin of @midtownbramble that much more powerful. She, like so many other small- and micro-business owners, is saying what those insulated by millions or billions of dollars remain unwilling to say.

A self-described reluctant capitalist, she sees the money her business makes as a conduit for social justice work and dignified employment. And as the owner of a self-funded, independent business, she puts her livelihood at stake everyday to honor her commitments.

In part two of our interview, Marisa provides an education on what it means to be truly radical in business. Links to read or listen are in the bio, and my deepest thanks to Marisa for her time and trust.

Sharing the unexpected grief of planning for a second child on Milky Time today~I know this subject matter isn’t for everyone, but I hope that anyone who needs it finds it ♥️ by @mirandabennettstudio

What becomes possible when we view resources differently?

When we look at land as something that can be shared and enriched instead of idle private property?

Marisa Mender-Franklin built a flower farm on n borrowed land, one yard at a time

while living with a chronic illness, one that forced her to not go it alone

But that was just the beginning

I few months ago I launched a new project called Milky Time and I have been a very bad self-promoter/have been meaning to share more about it here for some time.

Milky Time is a shopping guide that doubles as a space to talk about the messy becoming of parenthood.

The idea for this project was born in the delirious shell shock of new parenthood. In the milky haze of sleepless nights, when milk itself has become something of a lifestyle. As my thoughts began to return in the repair, rebuilding, and constant demands of the postpartum period, I ached for validation, guidance, and community. And anyone, I mean anyone, to discuss all of the stuff with: whether soothing colic or deciding what kind of sleep sack to get, or sharing some incredible discovery that has suddenly changed the game for my family (for that week at least). So, with naiveté and a pure heart, I am going to attempt to create the kind of conversations that I was and am looking for.

Becoming a parent and curating someone’s entire childhood is wild.

Anything I share there has to be Milky-worthy, which means it's functional (works as advertised), pleasing (to look at, hold, or live with), and/or interesting (preserves culture, memory, or is ingeniously designed).

I hope that anyone who needs this space finds their way here—maybe that is you reading this, or it's a friend or family member of yours who recently became a parent. Whomever you are, and whether you are drowning in the transition to parenthood or doing the butterfly stroke, I would love to see you there. You can find all of the info in my bio :)

Last week, I presented the keynote address and a workshop at @austintexasgov’s annual Resource Recovery Connect + Share Conference. This ask was really different for me, I usually participate in panels or fireside chats, but preparing a speech and leading a workshop is such a different assignment and honestly, one that was well outside of my comfort zone. The organizer at @austinrecycles invited me based on my work with Creativity in the Time of Capitalism, which was incredibly meaningful to me, and encouraged me to move through my nerves and discomfort. Even more meaningful was that my mom came, as did my dear friend @austinmorton (who isn’t photographed because she took all of these pictures), and tucked in a bag was my childhood doll Kirsten—a bridge to 9 year old Mindy to show her I can do hard things. There were even some fans of the podcast in the audience 🥲 Thanks to Kat for inviting me, @amberhodgsonhair who let me do a run through whilst working magic on my hair the day before my presentation, and @justindavidcox who is always in my corner and listened through many many drafts of this project.

My talk was about giving equal weight to all of the meanings of sustainability in business—environmental, economic, and cultural—a lesson I learned the hard way. It was also a chance for the business leaders in the room to realize that they were not alone in many of the struggles that they faced. I hope that they left with more permission to hold their wellness with equal measure to their ideals.

If you are a business in Austin and deploy any kind of circularity in your business model—Austin Resource Recovery @austinrecycles is doing incredible work and is available to you ♻️💚 by @mirandabennettstudio

What happens when you decide to take yourself seriously?

when we commit to the long, tender, nonlinear work of finding your voice-and learning to meet yourself with compassion rather than criticism.

what happens when a personal creative practice becomes a bridge that can help us find one another, make the world feel smaller (in the best way), and offer language for healing that someone else may need, too.

My next guest, NY Times bestselling author @alex_elle, began writing as a way to heal. Years later, those private notes of self-kindness have become books, community, and a creative life that has reached readers around the world.

This conversation is for anyone who has been waiting for permission to begin.

Rest is not something you earn once you have done enough.

In the second part of my conversation with @alex_elle, we talk about the pressure so many of us feel to be endlessly available, productive, and visible—and what it means to step away from that demand.

This is a conversation about making room for quiet, listening to your own needs, and remembering that your worth cannot be measured by your output.

Part two is live now on Creativity in the Time of Capitalism. Read or listen via the link in bio.

Genie Lee appreciation post!!!! I got to see this dearest to me person and her INCREDIBLE brainchild: Elm @elmnashville—the most stunning and thoughtfully designed events space that I have ever seen. I kind of want to renew my vows to @justindavidcox just so we can have the celebration there. Proud does not even begin to approach how I feel; she is a magical person who makes magical spaces in the world. Keep shining my beautiful friend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 by @mirandabennettstudio
