It’s been over 8 years of Flask & Field! I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve created.

Retail is a 365 days a year wild ride that requires every cell of your body to show up and push through. I’m a completely different person than I was 8 years ago and 1000% more of who I was always meant to be. I have never once regretted my decision to blow up my life.

I’m a late bloomer and a slow burner, and I do everything on my time in my own way. That doesn’t always align with capitalism. But when you chase dreams over clout, your inner magnet gets stronger. You start to repel what’s not meant for you and attract what is, without effort. Magic starts to happen.

For those of you who know me, you know the sudden death of my dad took me all the way out. I hit rock bottom and was ready to give up on life. But something incredible happens when you survive. You crack open and see the endless possibilities of what life can be. I now know I can survive literally anything. That’s a pretty cool consolation prize. Existence is absurd. It’s deep, beautiful, painful, boring, and exhilarating. It’s all the things, every single day, until it’s not. There’s no such thing as perfect timing. Only time that’s always running out.

I have no idea what the next 8 years looks like and for the first time, I don’t need to. As long as I can fuck around, find out, fail, persist, change my mind, and keep going, I’m perfectly enchanted. Thank you to everyone who supports me and allows me to be free. I love you. taken in Flask & Field by @mircat

It’s been almost two years since I lost my dad. Ryan made this video for me right after he died but I was never able to watch it until now.

I’ve spent that time mostly in blurs, trying to piece together who he was, revisiting old memories, wondering which parts happened as I remember them and which parts I’ve made up.

I miss him every day. I’ll never be the same without him, and ironically, that’s the last gift he left me.

Saying goodbye to him broke me.

The trauma was so raw and overwhelming that it brought me to places inside myself I had spent a lifetime avoiding. Grief stripped away every distraction, every illusion, every excuse. It forced me to sit alone with myself and answer questions I could no longer outrun.

You lose a lot in grief. Families fracture. Everyone ends up stranded on their own island, carrying a different version of the same loss. Friendships are tested. Some don’t survive. The ones that do become unbreakable.

You lose certainty and the illusion that there will always be more time. You lose the person you were before the phone call but if you’re lucky, grief gives something back.

It gave me permission to stop performing. To stop trying to become someone else and to stop begging for love and acceptance. Somewhere in the wreckage I found my way back to myself.

The life I have today isn’t the life I would have chosen on the day he died. It’s deeper. Stranger. More honest and more mine.

I spent most of my life trying to understand my dad. But losing him helped me finally understand myself. I wish he were still here. I wish he could meet this version of me.

But at the same time, he’s everything, everywhere, all at once. He continues to shape me, challenge me, and transform me. My shattered heart is healing from within and it’s changing the trajectory of my life. It’s the most powerful beautiful thing I’ve ever witnessed.

I promise you love doesn’t disappear. It survives death and pulls you through your deepest, darkest pain. It keeps becoming, in motion, in this lifetime, and beyond, beyond, beyond. ♥️ taken in Muskogee, Oklahoma by @mircat

👩🏻‍🎓Thank you to my alma mater @riceuniversity for highlighting my small business🦉! So proud of what we’ve built and the community that has supported us through thick and thin. I thought I would retire from being a lawyer and do something easy but, turns out, running a retail business is extremely stressful and high touch. Through the ups and downs of Flask & Field, I’ve learned so much about myself and have become the person I was always meant to be. My dad always wanted me to go to Rice University and would have been stoked to see this full circle moment. Thank you Robyn for saying it so gracefully and @bethanynauert for the beautiful photos, always 🙏🏼. Go owls! 🦉🦉🦉 taken in Flask & Field by @mircat

Not pictured but Dad 👨🏻‍⚕️ made sure the other parents pulled through to help with the small business holiday season 🎈. So grateful to Amy, George and Young for showing up and packing gifts for Flask & Field 🍷🌿. They were given meal breaks I promise. Will always cherish the memory of this holiday season: our favorite one yet! Small businesses are becoming extinct so we’re savoring each hand built package with so much love and care 💕. It’s a privilege. Big box stores could NEVA. I couldn’t do it without my village and the amazing team of A+++ Flask & Field Associates 👊🏼. We are small but mighty and we get to do things our way. When we say by hand we mean every single gift, every single time🤗. We’re on our 7th year of business! WoOoOoOo 🥵!

🎉 Wishing you happy holidays and hoping to see you at the shop soon. I’m there everyday in December until Christmas Day, so come say hi! taken in Flask & Field by @mircat

🧜🏻‍♀️ Came out of hiding to say Happy Birthday to my bestie @kristin_ess. She did not authorize the photos in this post so it may come down expeditiously but not before I proclaim my love for her. Kristin is a woman like no other! She is a force of nature 🌪️. She has been there for me since the day I met her and we have been forever bonded through country music, Bakersfield, KEH, F&F, puppies, loss and everything in between. When I told her I wanted to quit my job and open a wine shop she came over day and night until I fleshed it out. She is very much the reason F&F exists and continues to thrive 🙏🏼. When my pup Avon got sick she found the best holistic vet in LA and saved her life. True story. When I lost my dad this past year she stepped up and showed me more love than I thought possible. She doesn’t hesitate, she just takes action. She doesn’t talk about it, she IS about it. I’m not the best at friendships so I keep the ones that click close by and forever. I’m so lucky to have a friend like Kristin! KE, thank you for being a loyal friend, sister and my soul guide through this crazy life. I got my first mammogram ever today at 43 in honor of you and was brave about it, because you are brave in everything you do. You are my inspiration and you are also hot. I love those two things about you equally. Happy birthday - can’t wait for our lake house, retirement and all the adventures to come! HBD!!! 🥳 XOXO taken in Los Angeles, California by @mircat

Dad and me. At our tiny micro wedding at Korakia Pensione. We decided on a very intimate ceremony with just our parents and sisters. My mom had just survived breast cancer surgery, chemo, and radiation, and I wanted our families, meeting for the first time, to have meaningful time together. It was everything I hoped for and more. My parents immediately connected with Ryan’s parents and Charley, and my dad, in his heartfelt way, said Ryan could only come from the best humans. He loved Ryan with all his heart.

After the ceremony, we all jumped into the pool together. It’s a memory I’ll hold onto forever, one of those moments that felt perfect in every way. I miss my dad every day, and the ache sometimes feels like it might pull me under. It’s like I’m living in a world that doesn’t quite feel like mine anymore. Grief is relentless, overwhelming, and hard to navigate, but I’m trying.

The truth is, I know I’ll be heartbroken for the rest of my life, and that’s okay with me. Because that’s how big my dad was, and how much he will always mean to me.

Forever grateful for that time. Forever missing him. ♥️ taken in Korakia Pensione by @mircat
