POSTS STORIES REELS

This is '36 meter square' at '22.96 | Overflow' exhibition which opened on 3rd July to the public at Ballina Civic Office Art Space, County Mayo, Ireland. It was launched on Friday 3rd July by Senator Mark Duffy (@senatormarkduffy).

'22.96│Overflow is presented in recognition of the shared histories of water that connect this Irish river town with Gympie, Queensland. In 2022, the Mary River in Gympie rose to 22.96 metres during a nationally declared disaster, inundating homes, businesses and civic spaces. Ballina, shaped by the River Moy, carries its own lived memory of flood and tidal force.

Through large-scale paper works, Miriam Innes (Miriam Innes Art) and Joolie Gibbs (Joolie's Art pages) examine water as both destructive event and connective presence. The artworks trace sediment lines, debris patterns and altered architectures. Through videography, Leeroy Todd reflects on how communities endure, rebuild and remain bound to their rivers. In this context, 22.96│Overflow becomes a dialogue between places, linked by vulnerability, resilience and the persistent movement of water.

This exhibition is open until August 8th 2026. Admission is free.

Opening hours are: Monday to Friday, 9.30am until 4.30pm. Closed for lunch: 1pm – 2pm.

I was honoured to officially open the art exhibition ‘22.96 Overflow’ by @miriaminnesart and @joolie31 @leeroys_lens in conjunction with @ballinaartscentre.

The exhibition connects the similar challenges that face communities in Ireland and Australia with flooding and is open to view in Ballina Civic Offices each day until August 8th.
