l’ve been the addict. I’ve been the one who loves an addict. l’ve lost friends and family to drugs and alcohol.

Addiction changes everyone it touches. It’s easy to be blind to your own faults when you’re in it, and it’s just as easy to lose compassion when you’re watching someone you love destroy themselves.

Whole time both sides are suffering. We could all benefit from more compassion and more honest reflection.

If you’re using, ask yourself: is it for fun, or are you trying to escape something deeper?

And if you’re loving someone in their addiction, remember they’re still in there. Love them. But also hold your boundaries.

Keep your heart soft. We all deserve a chance to heal.

Our actions have consequences.

Recently someone in my life held a mirror to me. It wasn’t comfortable. But I’m clocking the patterns now.

When life holds a mirror up to us and we’re forced to face the reflection of our own choices, we have to remember that accountability isn’t punishment, but recognition. An important part of our becoming is recognizing how our actions ripple outward, touch others and shape our relationships.

Accountability does not have to be about shaming ourselves. Instead, we can see it as an opportunity to learn. by @mirrorssmoke

Everyone is a mirror.

When we react strongly to someone, whether with admiration, irritation, jealousy, or love, it’s often revealing something within us.

The traits we admire in others may reflect our own hidden potential or values we wish to embody.

The traits we dislike may expose parts of ourselves we haven’t yet accepted or healed.

A person who disrespects boundaries might be showing us where we need to strengthen them.

Someone who meets us with kindness and openness may reflect the energy we’ve been cultivating within ourselves.

We all carry love, fear, hope, pain. It’s just expressed through different faces and stories.

And so every relationship (fleeting or lifelong) becomes a teacher. The mirror others hold up invites us to grow, love deeply, forgive, and evolve.
