We put on a lot of face paint just to eat rice and do laundry. It turns out the void is mostly just chores and paperwork.

We are incredibly grateful to the team who helped us film our descent into domestic madness.

Thank you for making us look cool while we did absolutely nothing of importance.

Lemai hari Dua, 15 September 2026

実際は15日に演奏があることは完全に忘れていた。急に we got gig at Merdekarya とか言われて少しは練習してみたんですが結局はギターで遊ぶだけで練習なんかしてへんかった

また有休も申請するのを忘れたからしょうがなく普通に勤務してて仕事を終わらして（永遠に終わらないのにな）急いで現状に行った。めっちゃ疲れていたのにバカみたいにスーツを来て登場しちゃった

演奏自体は楽しかった
本間暑かったけど
とあまりにも演奏が激しすぎてギタリストのコンセントが誰かによって踏まれちゃって壊れた

うちのバンドの次に演奏したバンドはサクソフォンがいる
吹く系の楽器できないので羨ましかった

次の日は祝日だったのにまた仕事だった

So why did I spent part of our set completely horizontal on the floor of Merdekarya?

The answer is simple: gravity exists, and fighting it is a waste of rehearsal time.

By aligning my lumbar spine directly with the pedalboards and the collective vibrational dread of Malaysia Day Eve, guitar sustain increased by an estimated 4.2%. taken in Merdekarya by @mirthlesskl

Malaysia Day Eve at Merdekarya.

We were the black metal band playing between four acoustic acts.

I got there right after work and, as I settled my things, scanned the venue and the crowd just to get a feel for the evening.

There were people who brought their dates. A salaryman who just wanted to have a drink before the public holiday. A lady who brought her overseas friends, whom she hadn't seen in years.

The lights were dim and cosy. The bartender was pouring drinks behind the aisle. Everything about the place said easy listening and a quiet night out.

And then there was us.

I looked around and said, “Look at the number of people we're going to disappoint tonight.” I think Rauf heard me and chuckled.

A black metal band nestled between four acoustic acts on a quiet evening. This could not get any more awkward.

Then we played. And somehow, they started cheering.

The cheers got louder with every song, until the night ended in a crescendo.

Afterwards, people came up to us saying they'd never heard anything like this before. Some asked when the album was coming out. Some asked when we'd be playing next so they can watch us again.

It reminded me of 2023, when Aliff, Fayyadh and I first started practising as Mirthless, back when we were still called Smile. We didn't even have a drummer.
We had a drum machine, instead.

I remember telling them, “The music we're playing is niche. It's not going to be popular. Not many people are going to enjoy this. We're only doing this because it's what we love.”

And that's still true. We're still doing this because this is what we love.

But that night, a room full of people who came expecting a quiet evening embraced the noise we made.

I wonder what that Andy in 2023, sitting in that rehearsal room jamming with his friends, would say if he could see this night.

Merdekarya's stage is designed for one person with an acoustic guitar.

So naturally we brought the full six band members including two bassists to ensure the sound engineer had a terrible evening.

Here are the evidences to prove that it happened and that we take ourselves very seriously.

Thank you @merdekarya and everyone who came for having us.
