Basketball is one of my greatest loves, and I’m so grateful my kids reminded me of that over these last few years.

When I was young, I watched basketball obsessively. It was the most beautiful way I’d ever seen bodies-in-sport expressed. So obsessed, I was our high school teams’ manager. I also played constantly, religiously. I had dreams of playing in college (but I was 5’6” [now 5’5” lol]). I learned through pickup and street ball, mostly playing at our church gym after services. Never really learned organized ball and taught my own damn self my handles. It sort of all came natural to me.

Last weekend I got to play in the @studsvsfems lesbian tournament in Dallas. (I remember watching the little studs playing in high school and wanting to be them… full circle haha.) Playing against those women Saturday, who are some of the best players in Dallas (wtf was I thinking !!! 🤩), was lowkey a dream come true. I’m used to playing against my kids, teaching and coaching them over weekends and summers. I’m oldish to be starting over at sports again, too short to make it my life, and uh a trans woman, but all day I felt welcomed in a way that healed me.

So much sucks right now but there are a lot of good people in the world and so many places we belong that we’re told we don’t. Grateful to all those amazing, cool, HOT women last weekend who didn’t question me, embraced me, and let me hang with them on the court.

White Rhino, Emporium Pies, and Chris Parvin are enemies of this beautiful city. Not only were FOUR MANAGERS from both companies fired last month over voicing issues with a VERY anti-LGBTQ+ dress code (during Pride Month no less !!), White Rhino is racing to fold their coffee service into Emporium as a rebranding measure to stop the hemorrhagic loss of revenue this year.

Don’t be surprised. Did you really think this was over ? They only have themselves to blame !! It might be time to stop supporting these fucking businesses so we can actively make Dallas safer, more inclusive, and give workers actual fair wages and power.

Thank you @laurendrewesdaniels and @dallasobserver for always giving the people a voice. Also Rachael Bell, you are amazing. Someone give this girl a coffee shop to run. She’s a rock and guiding light. by @misc_en_scene
