Misha Goro’s latest paintings focus on the island’s vernacular architecture, old Paxos stone houses shops, ruined huts and traditional church belfries, disseminated through the island. Each painting functions as an individual and expressive “portrait” of a typical Paxos building and beyond its nostalgic quality also acts as a vital historical document of an architecture fated to disappear.

Mae Geri (front kick) is a foundational, linear strike in Kyokushin Karate. It involves bringing the knee up high toward the chest and thrusting the foot straight forward. The technique is primarily used to control distance, deliver devastating, piercing power to the midsection, or intercept incoming attacks.

🦵The Execution

Executing a standard Mae Geri involves three precise phases:The Chamber: Drive the knee of your kicking leg straight up while keeping your back straight. Flex your toes backward so you are striking with the ball of the foot (the koshi).

The Extension: Thrust your foot forward in a straight line, snapping or pushing your hips forward to transfer your body weight into the target

The Recoil: Rapidly pull the foot back to the chambered position before returning to your stance. This prevents your leg from being caught by an opponent.

Variations (Keage vs. Kekomi)Kyokushin often distinguishes between two types of front kicks:Mae Geri Keage (Snapping): A fast, whip-like kick. The leg snaps upward to strike higher targets (like the solar plexus or chin) and is rapidly withdrawn.

Mae Geri Kekomi (Thrusting): A heavy, driving kick. Here, you push your hip heavily forward and penetrate through the target, driving the opponent backward. This is highly effective against a charging opponent.

In full-contact Kyokushin, punches to the face are prohibited, making the body—specifically the solar plexus, ribs, and midsection—the main target by @mishagoro
