Closing this chapter (for now) with a very full heart. Working with these kids has been the most rewarding experience the past nearly two years. I’ve learned so much from them about patience, curiosity, and the purest kind of love. The teachers I’ve had the privilege of working alongside have been my greatest mentors and some of my best friends. Thank you for trusting me with all my crazy ideas and not being scared to get a little messy. I’m beyond thankful for my people.

Chapter Five: Educating the Minds that have Changed my Life

It’s taken me a long time to come up with the right words to sum up not only the time spent with my 25 crazy and wonderful 3rd graders but my time in @olathefutureed as well. And seeing as it’s nearly the start of a new school year it’s truly now or never.
-
Since day one in August in this classroom I have been fully immersed into the learning and chaos that comes with third grade. I got to experience the highs, the lows, and everything that came in between. New students joining our class, field trips across the state, teaching about the history of our city, creating projects that were unique to each student and everyone was proud of, are simply a few highlights. Having the opportunity to be apart of these students lives and being able to help them grow has been an experience like no other.

I simply cannot find the words to be able to fully express my gratitude for Scarborough and its staff, Katie Millard, my kids, and their guardians for their continued trust in me. You all have truly changed my life and I’m beyond thankful to have had you all be apart of my journey.

EdRising always has my heart, and I’m beyond excited to have the opportunity to compete at the national level for a third year in a row.

Getting the chance to speak in front of and with countless future and current educators across the state of Kansas is an experience like no other. Along with competing, the other officers and I got to run a breakout and run the conference throughout the day. My officer team is truly the most dedicated group of girls. Chapter Four: Learning Together

Kids want to be loved; so be kind, see them for them, and allow them the chance to show you who they are because it’s the most wonderful thing to experience life with them.

As a new @educatorsrising competition season begins today, I want to take a moment to throw it back to EdRising Nationals 2024 in Washington, D.C.

Throughout the 2023-2024 EdRising Competition season, I got to showcase the unique experience of being apart of @olathefutureed with my best friend Colt.

I am beyond proud and thankful to announce we received 2nd place overall in Public Service Announcement - Teacher Recruitment.

Chapter Three: My Infinity

I have been so insanely lucky to spend fourth quarter back with these absolutely amazing 5th graders. Throughout this quarter I got to participate in history lessons, music classes, a field trip to Brown v. Board of Education and the Ritchie House, and most recently their 5th grade graduation. I cannot believe this school year is over and these wonderful kids are moving onto middle school in a short few months. Every single minute I spent with this class continued to prove to me education is where I belong.

With this placement, I have gotten to go back to my own elementary with my favorite teacher I’ve ever had. There are no words to describe how much she means to me and how much this opportunity meant to me. Getting to go back for two quarters total this year meant the world to me. Seeing these 5th graders celebrate being done with elementary school was a little bittersweet because it means they are moving on and so is my favorite teacher. After 25 years at one school, her impact is definite and long lasting.

I am beyond thankful for this opportunity, all of the teachers involved (Scarborough and East), and all of the connections and relationships I’ve made throughout this part of my journey.

Chapter Two: Passion, Presence, and Patience

Over 3rd quarter I’ve gotten another wonderful opportunity to explore the world of education inside of the Olathe School District. This time in a middle school family and consumer science classroom! FACS has allowed me to observe different classes every hour. From making smoothie bowls in culinary to designing the interior of a room inside of a shoebox to getting to teach a class over one of my favorite topics: self esteem, this past quarter pushed me a little bit outside of my comfort zone. Through it all, my host teacher has shown me the good and the bad but mostly has given and shown nothing but support. My host teacher is an absolutely wonderful human being and I’m beyond thankful to have her as a mentor.

I am once again blown away with the amount of support and care I have been shown by @olathefutureed. Forever thankful for getting these opportunities to learn from the best.

Leap Day calls for Leaping for Inclusion!

Today was packed with welcoming future Hawks to East with the OE Talons Dance Team. Then getting to talk to them all about being in Educators Rising!
After school, the @olathefutureed crew headed out to Plunge for Inclusion!! The biggest shoutout to @olatheeast_ips for hosting this incredible event!!

Chapter One: The World Is Waiting

I was once told by my 5th grade teacher that I was going to be a teacher one day.
And I told her she was crazy.
Well, Mrs.Ross here’s me saying I’m going to be a teacher.
-
This past quarter I’ve gotten an amazing opportunity to not only observe a classroom but participate in creating lesson plans and truly teach an absolutely WONDERFUL group of 5th graders. Most recently my class participated in The Candy Cane Olympics, using teamwork and problem solving skills to effectively and efficiently compete in games against each other, including the other 5th grade class. Through this past quarter, I’ve gotten to go to their musical performance, help improve individual students self confidence in their math and reading skills, create connections with both my students and my placement school’s staff, strengthen my classroom management skills, and so much more. I cannot begin to describe how thankful I am for @olathefutureed for all of the opportunities I have been given so far on my journey.

To think everything started for me right here at this very elementary makes me wonder where else my journey will take me.
