I thought it was just a headache. Turns out I was having a stroke.

I wrote this note after my first day home ((bloodwork is brought up slide 3 be warned)). Still haven’t checked if the date of the visit was right (I was still out of it at the time), but at this point I don’t care. I’m just happy to be here. I’m happy to be home, even if I’m learning how to draw again and how it feels to be in a new body (mine hasn’t quite realized we’re back yet), and getting used to the bits and pieces of myself that are still a little out of wack.

I didn’t even fully believe what was happening until I was asked to draw a flower and it had to be described to me as to what a flower even was. The ones I drew on the back of my breakfast receipt were all I could do. I’d gone from hyper realistic artworks to the sketch level of a three year old. To lose the ability to do the one thing I was sure I’d always be able to do was what made me realize how close of a call this had been, and how much else I could have lost. I didn’t think I’d been in long term danger until that moment, and it has literally changed my life. I could have lost it all this Sunday, and I can’t describe how insane that is to me today.

Beyond grateful for everyone and everything I hold dear in this life.
Beyond grateful to have recovered to this point already. Beyond grateful to have so much support and love everywhere.
