The teaser for our short film, 'We Must Begin Again, Together'.

This film had its fair share of hills and dales, but it was carried through by the devotion, generosity and unwavering will of our cast and crew. Really proud to finally share the first glimpse.

Also thankful to friends, the entire LFS cohort and Mom, always.

International productions are gaining incredible steam as studios, production houses, and talent are migrating overseas in droves. On September 20 we’re diving into the challenges and benefits of shooting abroad from two filmmakers from Haitian-American and Nigerian-American backgrounds who have created their films internationally.

Melissa Oluwarotimi Adeyemo is a visionary film producer who is the founder of US-based Ominira Studios and the co-founder of the intracontinental studio, Yetu (Un)Limited. Melissa’s first feature, Eyimofe, premiered at the 2020 Berlinale and is currently the first Nigerian film to be a part of the Criterion Collection. Melissa is a BAFTA Breakthrough Fellow, EAVE Fellow, Cannes Producer’s Network, and a Netflix + Film Independent Amplifier Fellow.

Elisee Junior St Preux is a Haitian-American Filmmaker from Miami, FL. Elisee is a Season 1 Director of Indeed’s Rising Voices, a 53rd NAACP Image Awards nominee, a Sundance Ignite Finalist, an ABFF HBO Short Film Award recipient, a Year 2 Rideback Rise Circle Inductee, an NBAF Horizon Award Finalist, a WEG Feature Film Lab Fellow, and a Netflix ā€œCreated Byā€ Fellow where he held a script development deal to pen an original feature film for the studio. His award-winning film, ā€œAurinko in Adagioā€ has received distribution on HULU. Elisee is the owner of the production company, SOIL, who harness the power of storytelling to uplift, influence, and enhance the Black & Caribbean experience both on and off the screen. Elisee is currently in post-production on his debut feature film, ā€œThe Tropic Sun and His Eyesā€ - the first mental health, father-and-son narrative shot entirely on land in Haiti. by @missadee01

Big moment for me šŸ™šŸ¾

I had the honor of speaking at Harvard’s Africa Development Conference on a panel about Africa’s Cultural Economy — a powerful conversation on how we shape global culture in the future through music, film, and storytelling.

Sharing space with global artists and creative entrepreneurs like @jidenna, @manifestive, @vicmensa, and @oluwa.mayowa.idowu, with skillful moderation by @classytendencies, was a reminder of the responsibility we carry to tell our stories our way.

We spoke about the urgency of creating our own pathways — rooted in who we are and who we need to be in the future. The conversation centered on authenticity, ownership, and how we intentionally uplift the next generation of creatives.

Grateful to the brilliant student organizers @adcharvard who curated such a meaningful event and panel. And heartfelt thanks to @enyiomeruah for recommending me — appreciate you championing me for this opportunity.

This is a photo of me on my way to teach a class. I love teaching—it’s my happy place—but promoting my new course, How to Make Your First Film, makes me nervous as hell.Ā

It’s my first time putting myself out there like this—sharing my expertise online—but I believe in what I offer. When you join my class, it’s not just a pre-recorded video. It’s me, live, answering your questions and guiding you through every step of the filmmaking process.

That’s why I love teaching—it’s all about connection. Seeing your ideas come to life and being there to support young filmmakers and creators in their journey. That’s what excites me.

So, even though I’m nervous about promoting this course, I’m so excited to meet the people who sign up and start the journey of learning how to make their first films.

Full video of me promoting the course in stories.

šŸ‘‰ Link in bio to join the class. Let’s make your dream project happen!

A new city every month outside of my home city save for December (I got COVID). A lot of life lived this year. Here is to more life in 2025!

Amazing friends - so many not seen here but who showed up in big and small ways.

I rarely do these but 2024 was such a tremendous year for me. New home city. New friends. Bigger challenges and bigger opportunities. A lot of love and new heights with old and new friends. There was a lot of learning, a lot of sadness, frustration, grief, anger, and disappointment. There was also a lot of love, hope, friendship, care, joy and deep alignment with the universe and myself.

I have had to get deeply comfortable with the uncomfortable and move - consistently - without the same support systems. But that lack made me more open, more vulnerable, more able to pivot. A word I detest, but an action I welcome more and more.

Here is to standing on business in 2025.
