Since summer starts on my birthday, the last day of August always feels like the end of it. Despite another (surprise!) summer of unemployment, I am so grateful to the people I love for being a solace and I am so proud of myself for doing my best. I spent the best and sunniest months of the years with people that I love in the places that I love. I’ve cooked with so much love and intention (shoutout to @succubussupperclub ) and prioritized my peace. by @missalexisk

Friday night plans? Canceled. 🇭🇹🐟

We’re having a late-night fish fry: Haiti edition. Crispy fried red snapper, fragrant diri djondjon, sautéed cabbage, sweet maduros, crunchy banann peze, and just enough pikliz to remind you that Haitian food believes in keeping you humble. 😏🔥

1. My QUEEN Zeny who has been cooking up Cruzan and Latin food in Christiansted for longer than I have been alive.
2. The daily mandatory pates (salt fish, beef and guava, depending on the time of day 🤣)
3. @singhsrotishop for roti
4. Trying @amacanebay for the first time with the most amazing view and,
5. Back to Frederiksted for fried snapper and lamb stew, respectively, at Alba’s.

Kind Reminders:
1. All beaches in St. Croix (and greater USVI) are open to the public by law. You can visit any beach for free, even those in front of resorts.

2. You won’t die if you are fat in a two piece or *gasp* bikini. Promise. 💋

Ever since Haiti stepped onto the World Cup stage (after 52 years!!!), I’ve been cooking Haitian food with even more pride, seeing the flag celebrated on one of the world’s biggest stages. 🇭🇹

Today, i craved pikliz and banan peze- one bringing the heat, the other bringing the crunch. Together, they’re a reminder that some of the best stories are told through food. What’s one dish that immediately tastes like home to you?
