This is my original Fisher-Price Weaving Loom from 1983. My sister and I used up all the yarn that came with the loom and then some. It has been sitting in an attic for decades since it was last used and now it’s time to clean it up and take it for a spin.

This real, working loom has alphabetized pegs for threading, easy to use instructions, a plastic needle, a plastic weaver's comb, and three shuttles. The assembled loom measures 14" long x 8" high x 20" deep. It was designed for children ages 8 years and older.

The model number is 715 and it was created while Fisher-Price was, apparently, a subsidiary of the Quaker Oats company. The loom was a part of the Fisher-Price’s large offerings of Arts & Crafts toys, including mediums such as needlepoint, clay, puppet crafts, quilting, and more. There were also add-on project kits available for this specific loom including a pillow, a tote bag, and a wall organizer.

The box is long gone, but the loom is still in good working condition, despite missing the left arm for the heddle. I am also missing the needle, the comb, and three identical shuttles that came in the original box. I could attempt to 3-D print these missing items, and sometimes parts appear for sale on sites like eBay or Etsy, but for now I will replace them with other objects I already have around the house such as this plastic comb and wooden shuttle. I am fortunate to still have the instruction booklet as well. What should I make first? by @misscliche

Added a little voiceover. What do you think?

The Singer Sewhandy Model 20 is a miniature cast-iron chain-stitch sewing machine produced from 1910 through the 1950s. It was marketed as a child’s learning tool or “real sewing machine” rather than as a toy and later earned cult status as a portable machine and desirable collectible. This one appears to be a 50’s model and it’s a tiny tank!

The minute machine is hand-cranked via a side wheel, and mounted securely to a table using a specialized C-clamp. It uses a single top thread to create a secure, interlocking chain stitch without a lower bobbin.

Model 20’s use a short 24x1 needle which has a flat shank fitted to the right, so that the needle is threaded from left to right.

This one came with the original box, original manual, a packet of short needles, and a couple of vintage wooden thread spools by Clarke who are still in business today as Coates & Clark, along with Singer Sewing Machines. It even has the original tag. It is missing its C-Clamp but I am hoping that will prove easy to find. I can’t wait to get this little gal up and running! What should I name her? by @misscliche

I took a moment for myself today and made pastina for lunch. It was a late lunch, but I’m glad I made it happen. Sat in a patch of sun that had poured itself along the length of the table, while the cat snoozed in a nearby sunbeam on the floor. This is, apparently, the best spot in the joint for the long, low light of autumn afternoons. Primo sunbeams. He breathed deeply and I watched his dark fur almost imperceptibly shimmer along his sides while I ate the comforting, simple soup.

I could end the story there, insta-perfect, or add that the bowl was beyond lava hot (yes, even after taking this photo) and I had a meeting coming in mere minutes so I scarfed most of it down, burning my mouth. But for a moment I had nowhere to be but where I was, and that was so rad. by @misscliche
