I warned you that something super emotional and mushy was coming! Looking back on this journey always makes me teary-eyed. It almost feels like a blur how demotivated and hopeless I felt before GR came into my life. GR and GL have been rays of sunshine, bringing joy even on the darkest days. The number of inhibitions I’ve had to overcome in these four years as an entrepreneur is incredible, to say the least! I love the person I’m slowly becoming, and none of this would have been possible without the immense support I’ve received from each one of you.

Someone recently introduced me as “Haathi Aunty” and immediately laughed because she realised how wrong that sounded.

And it got me thinking about how deeply we’ve internalised the idea that haathi is an insult.

In India, children have been called haathi for being a little bigger than the “ideal” size. And we laugh about it because it’s “just a joke”.

Except children don’t always hear jokes as jokes. They hear: there is something wrong with my body.

So I’d like to retire the insult. 🐘
Because if being called a haathi means being strong, intelligent, social, protective, gentle, loving and magnificent… I’ll happily be Haathi Aunty.

Maybe the next time someone uses “haathi” to make someone feel bad, the joke isn’t on the person being called one. It’s on the person who thinks being a haathi is an insult.

Happy 80 years of independence! 🇮🇳 This day will always remind me of my KV days and the goosebumps I’d get during the flag hoisting. And then Jana Gana Mana would hit different! 🩷🇮🇳

“Their home isn’t empty land. It’s home.” 🐘🌳

I drew this little elephant today because I kept thinking about something that feels so obvious, yet somehow needs to be said again and again: land that looks empty to us isn’t empty.

It is a forest. It is a feeding ground. It is a path they have walked for generations. It is where families live, move, rest and raise their babies.

And today, on World Elephant Day, this feels especially important when there is news from Kaziranga about a proposal to reduce the park’s eco-sensitive zone from the default 10 km to 1 km. Conservationists have raised concerns about what that could mean for the wildlife that moves beyond the park’s boundaries including elephants, who need the surrounding landscape and corridors to move safely.

Because a boundary on a map doesn’t mean much to an elephant.

Six years.

Sometimes it feels like yesterday that I nervously uploaded my first product, hoping someone… anyone…would like what I had created.

Sometimes it feels like I’ve lived a hundred different lives since then.

These six years have been filled with excitement, mistakes, happy tears, anxiety, sold-out launches, manufacturing disasters, self-doubt, unexpected opportunities, becoming a mother, and somehow finding my way back to these little elephants every single time.

People often ask me how Miss Compass Hands has grown over the years.

The truth is, it grew because of you.

Because you chose to gift these elephants to someone you loved.
Because you kept coming back.
Because you shared your stories with me.
Because you reminded me, over and over again, that art can be a small source of comfort.

This little dream has changed my life in more ways than I can ever put into words...

Thank you for letting it be a part of yours

Happy birthday, Harry!

Our friend, our companion, and everything we didn’t have when we were growing up. I wish I could describe what Harry Potter and that entire world meant to me. But I’ve slowly started forgetting that part of myself, which makes me a little sad.

I’m excited, though, for my nephew and Ruhaan to experience that magic one day. 🩷

But hey, I’ll always remember that July 31st is Harry’s birthday. Hehe.
