Last one of this series!

Breaking the stereotype: "Pageant girls are just a pretty face/ are dumb/are ditzy."

Honestly the self conscious people making this claim to make themselves feel better about their shortcomings are not worth arguing against!

So I will leave you with this.

-My roommate and I (also a pageant girl) are both at our university on presidential scholarships

-Madison Marsh (previous Miss America) is a Harvard student

-Our current FANTASTIC Miss America Volunteer is a freaking PILOT

-I was salutatorian in high-school

-I am a member of MSU's honor's college

-One of my previous pageant friends had a NASA internship and now goes to an Ivy League

-My mother (who has been involved in pageants for years) has three degrees

-I am currently pre-law

-I have been an ambassador under the attorney general office of Colorado

-My roommate graduated in the top 10% of her class

Hate to break it to the haters but pageant girls really are well rounded. Don't let this get you down, let it inspire you! Let's all love a little more eh? by @misscovol

Breaking the stereotype: "Pageant girls are perfect/I could never be a pageant girl."

I am not gonna lie guys...every-time I hear this it makes me laugh! Not in a mean way but come onnn! If you met me you would know I am FAR from perfect. I have my messy bun days, my pizza for breakfast mornings, and my mess-ups. These silly quirks and mistakes aren't things that make me less of a "pageant girl," they are the things that make me a good competitor.

What I mean to say is this: judges are looking for YOU. Not you with the same intro as the current winner, not you with a smile on 24/7, not you ignoring stress and struggles...YOU. A pageant girl is not one specific type of person, shade of skin, color of hair, set of interests, or weight. A pageant girl is a woman who owns her life and seeks to help the lives of others.

SOOO next time any of you (whoever may be reading this) thinks "Im to [blank] to compete" or "Im not [blank] enough," just take a look at yourself and laugh! Life is not that serious and the BIGGEST obstacle in your success will be your own brain if you don't believe in your ability to stand out and make change. by @misscovol

WELCOME BACK!! This session of breaking the stereotype: pageant systems are in competition/there is one best system.

Getting controversial here.

Unfortunately in pageant culture today there is the belief that "one system wins" or that pageant systems are all against each other. In my experience (I cannot speak for others), this stereotype is both untrue and harmful. This picture is from the night I gave up one of my previous titles...in another system. Pictured is not only me but also Michelle Mann, a friend of mine who is currently working her hardest out at Miss America's Teen. Guess what...I am supporting her. I am cheering her on. I am recognizing her hard work and dedication. EVEN THOUGH SHE IS IN A DIFFERENT SYSTEM!!!!

Pageantry is about women who work hard and support each other in doing so. Why would the brand or label on a girls crown change the way we surround one another with love? I do not think it should. So you heard it here first folks...there is no "best" pageant system. Every pageant system is different, no doubt, but each one is working in favor of shaping the next leaders of our generation. Who cares about "the brand?" Let's all choose to care more about the beauty 💖👑😉 by @misscovol

Hi guys, Miss Colorado Volunteer here...welcome to my new series: Breaking the Stereotype!!

While I am out in Mississippi it is hard for me to make certain in-person impacts on my beautiful state...but that doesn't mean I cannot uplift the beautiful women if Colorado on social media (and let's be honest, social media is becoming more and more prominent in society, so we should all work to make it a positive place).

I have always loved positive content and hope to use my platform as a microphone for confidence and female strength. I figure a great way to do so is to talk about the different stereotypes pageant girls face and to BREAK THEM DOWN!! So let's get this positive party started.

No. 1
"Pageant girls are catty."

Society has a tendency to stereotype pageant girls (and successful, beautiful women in general) as catty, intimidating, or rude. Many believe that confidence and ambition come at the expense of kindness. But really, the opposite is true. Pageant girls know how much discipline, sacrifice, and hard work it takes to chase a goal, so they’re often the first to recognize and respect that same drive in others. Behind the glam is a community of women who understand pressure, celebrate one another’s growth, and know what it means to work for something you truly want. Rather than tearing other women down, shared experience makes pageant girls even more uplifting, empathetic, and supportive of the women around them. by @misscovol

As the Miss Colorado Volunteer pageant launches into a new era, we want to take a moment to celebrate the woman who has brought us this far.

@_ellenmccurdy_ Ellen was Colorado’s first-ever titleholder and has been this system’s loudest cheerleader ever since.

Ellen worked tirelessly over the last several years to ensure Colorado’s queens had a mentor, a cheering session, a wardrobe consultant, and a friend.

Thank you, Ellen, for the heart you have poured into Miss Colorado Volunteer and for the legacy you have set up for the queens to come.

We are excited for the years to come and are proud to call you, “friend”. ❤️👑 by @misscovol
