If there was a Hall of Fame for one-off projects, Jimmy Wells 28 Bertram would be front and center.

Did you double take to ensure it’s a Bertram? This is the definition of custom. From the gap tower design, to the incredibly sleek console and custom made bracket, there is not one inch of this boat that was not painstakingly thought out.

With Bertram’s legendary “Deep-V” hull that brought much success in offshore powerboat racing — Jimmy wanted to retain this proven design and pair it with today’s modern outboard technology. His seamless addition of a fiberglass engine bracket, mated to new power, created a fuel-efficient battlewagon that easily cruises at 55MPH. We think Dick Bertram would be proud.

Tony Eden of @boattronics just loves being a touch different when it comes to building a cool project boat.

We’re no strangers to what Tony is capable of dreaming up, designing, and bringing to life. Especially considering this old steed was once sitting in the bushes of a friend’s yard, and now she’s rocking croc skin upholstery with a little Louis V flair to top it all off…

Because apparently, croc skin alone just wasn’t enough for Mr. Tony. 😂

Not many, if ANY, project boats out on the water are rocking a combo quite like this one.

Are squared-off helm enclosures becoming a thing of the past? I mean… could you blame us for thinking it? 👀

Here we have the refreshed helm design on the Contender 32ST, now featuring a curved hard-glass windshield and it’s looking proper.

Now, we’re no engineers or rocket scientists here at Mission Boating, but one could think aerodynamically that the curved design would A) break the wind a whooole lot better and B) help deflect water more efficiently thanks to that roundness.

Again, no pros here — just guys with cameras and a lot of time on the water 😅

Function aside, we think the new design gives the 32ST a seriously refreshed look, and it’s a design you’ll find making its way onto other Contender models as well.

Stay tuned for more. We spent the day aboard this 32ST getting to know some of the additional updates Contender brought to an already proven platform.

When you’re built to do one thing and do it incredibly well…

…this 35’ Duffy was built for catching giant tuna and her performance in that arena is something to behold.

This “downeast” boat — lobster boat turned tuna catching machine — is stable on the drift, nimble on the fight, has cockpit room for days and keeps you dry in winter slop.

@capt.steeleydan restored and customized this old girl from the stringers up and we captured the action.

This is not your typical 20’ Seacraft restoration…

@itchy_fishin had one thing in mind for this build, big fish of the striper and giant tuna variety in his hometown of Scituate, Massachusetts.

Starting with near zero experience in fiberglass repair, he went in with “can do” attitude and built something that is truly remarkable.

To withstand the most epic tuna battles, she is cored to maximum thickness everywhere you look (and can’t look) with more layers of 1708 than one may ever need…but the ride speaks for itself…the most “battlewagon” 20’ boat we’ve ever stepped foot on.

Icing on the cake, a very unique touch for this hull, a custom “doghouse” to provide protection from the harsh northeast weather, that makes her truly one-of-a-kind.

We missed the memo that yesterday was National Dog Day, but we couldn’t miss the opportunity to share one of our favorite boating friends.

Layla girl’s favorite place is on the water. She doesn’t miss a single opportunity, as soon as the four-letter word is said, she’s ready to go… and we aren’t talking about “walk.” 😉🐾
