Mission From Dog is a catch all for Casey Hess, an artist out of Chicago recording tunes as often as he can. He has two new albums out in 2026.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

@missionfromdog (Casey Hess) belongs to that breed of musicians the industry only remembers in hindsight. His name has circulated on Chicago club marquees for years, surfaced in podcasts, flickered on Spotify playlists somewhere around the fifteenth slot — and still remained in the shadow of major labels and algorithms. There is a certain justice in that: Hess is a man who played punk-metal in high school with Wit’s End at Detroit bars alongside Stone Temple Pilots and Kid Rock, graduated from Berklee, relocated to Chicago, passed through the Asher Love project and its club orbit, lost his wife, rebuilt his life, and kept recording music. His biography reads denser than many albums, and it is precisely that density — biographical, emotional, instrumental — that defines the fourth Mission From Dog record. “These Times Take Things” arrives two years after “Minor Third” (2024), an album on which Hess worked with electric sound more aggressively than usual. The new record is billed as his “most cohesive set of songs” — a phrase artists tend to reach for by the fourth release, once they have accumulated enough material to understand what exactly makes their songs theirs.

A video from @beatkitchenbar from a few weeks ago featuring “Up On A Fence” from my new record. Great to raise money for a friend battling cancer and get a chance to share the stage with @davehunt2700 again. #missionfromdog #uponafence #beatkitchen. Finally album release day. I worked so damn hard on this one! Thank yous go out to my wife @genomichele and my boys @0tt0_hess and @fastnelsonhess for allowing me time to work on this. To my brother @scotthess for great critical feedback, my friend @peterkarr - my rock, my voice coach Rachel @rawcappella for helping me gain some confidence 30 years later, Matt and Ty at @vsopstudios for mixing and mastering, all my parent-friends in our @sorchiwest community, @barrybrecheisen for making me look cooler than I really am, Stu @aviewfromstu for the incredible album photo and anyone else I'm not thinking about in this stream of consciousness post. Oh... and to my parents for accidentally giving me a few years on this incredible rock. I hope you like it as much as I enjoyed working on it. taken in Chicago, Illinois by @missionfromdog

Fourth of five singles released today is Queen of Hearts by the band @fuckedup - Absolutely loved this song when it came out, the textures, the guitars, the vocals, the lyrics and story. Definitely some liberties here to fit my own angle, but tried to keep the points and parts that hit me the most.#missionfromdog #fuckedup #queenofhearts of hearts taken in Chicago, Illinois by @missionfromdog
