Most kids with disabilities in El Salvador don’t have access to consistent physical therapy.

That’s what this work is rooted in — > seeing the need, understanding the gaps, and asking how we can begin to meet people where they are.

Advocating for kids with disabilities where there is limited access, in a place like El Salvador lights my soul, but more than that, it lights theirs to have someone see them. This is just the beginning, but I’m grateful to be part of something that’s growing into more than I could have planned 🤍

The last few years God has been showing me what it truly means to follow him. What it means to give up the things I once thought I wanted or needed, to seek after Him and those He has called me to. My heart is full of joy as I think of a future where these kids are loved and cared for.

For a long time, I thought purpose was something you had to go out and find.

Something bigger.
Something extraordinary.

But lately I’ve been wondering if purpose is often much simpler than that.

Maybe it’s learning to care deeply for the people God has already placed in our lives.

Maybe it’s allowing Him to widen our circle.

Who is in your circle? ❤️ by @missionswithkayla

When you know their name, it changes things.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over the last several years is that ministry isn’t ultimately built on projects - it’s built on relationships.
The longer I do this work, the more I realize that what keeps bringing me back isn’t a program, a clinic, or even a vision.
It’s the people.
Because once you’ve heard someone’s story, shared life with them, and watched them fight for the people they love, it becomes personal.
And that’s a beautiful thing. ❤️ by @missionswithkayla

I first met this little girl during an @extramilepediatrics clinic back in April.

This week, I got to see her again at @laredelsalvador .

We spent time working through exercises, teaching her family ways they can continue practicing at home, and putting together a therapy kit they can use between visits.

But what I’ll remember most is the joy.

With her new supportive shoes, she was able to spend more time standing and practicing with the help of her parents & the new walker she received.

And she absolutely loved it.

Every time we helped her up, her face lit up.

It’s hard to describe the joy of watching a child do something they love that they don’t often get the opportunity to do.

But what may have been even more special was watching her parents.

Dad was there when I met them at the clinic.

Dad was there again this week.

And throughout the session, you could see the emotion in both of them as they watched their daughter standing, smiling, and doing something that brought her so much happiness.

As we talked, I couldn’t help but think about how much it means when a family feels seen.

When someone takes the time to sit with them, listen to them, believe in their child, and invest in their future.

In a place where resources can be hard to find and opportunities aren’t always easy to access, that matters.

What struck me was that the joy wasn’t just on her face.

It was on theirs too.

I think part of it was watching their daughter do something she loves.

But I think part of it was knowing that someone else saw her potential too.

And for a moment, all of us got to share in that joy together.

That’s a gift I don’t know how to put into words & something I will never take for granted 🇸🇻🩺 by @missionswithkayla

Memorias de junio: Hace un par de años, fui a El Salvador sin saber casi nadie. Ahora me encuentro pasando días con amigos que me han tratado como familia. Eso es algo que nunca voy a dar por sentado. 🇸🇻❤️ by @missionswithkayla

Some days look like crossing rivers, riding in the back of trucks, and walking from home to home.

They look like conversations around kitchen tables, learning from families, listening to their stories, and working together to improve access to clean water.

These are the moments most people never see.

The long drives.
The dirt roads.
The miles between homes.
The relationships built one conversation at a time.

This is what a day in the field often looks like.

And honestly, I’m grateful to be a part of it ❤️ by @missionswithkayla

I first met this little guy during an @extramilepediatrics clinic back in April.

At the time, I was able to evaluate him, talk with his family, and begin thinking through ways we could better support him.

This week, I had the opportunity to visit him in his home, bring a therapy kit for his family, and work through exercises they can continue practicing together.

One of the things I’ve always hoped this ministry would do is create a bridge between identifying a need and walking alongside families afterward.

Not just meeting a child once, but continuing the journey with them.

Getting to sit in his home, meet his family, and watch them learn how to use the equipment and exercises was a reminder of why that follow-up matters.

It’s a small step.

But every meaningful journey starts with one. 👣🇸🇻🩺 by @missionswithkayla
