Meet the Founder: I’m Janine — founder and perfumer of Echelon Fragrances. What started as a simple love for scent turned into something I never saw coming. I made my first fragrances as Christmas gifts, and that small idea sparked a passion I couldn’t ignore. I spent months mixing formulas, learning through trial and error, failing, refining, and refusing to settle until every scent felt like emotion in a bottle. This summer changed everything. I took Echelon from Calgary across the country, setting up tables at markets, talking to strangers who became customers, and watching people fall in love with fragrance again. Every person who stopped by my booth, tested a strip, or gave honest feedback — you helped shape this brand and I’m grateful. Echelon is inspired by the phrase “upper echelon” — not about status, but self-elevation. When you wear these scents, I want you to feel like the sharpest, boldest, most untouchable version of yourself. This brand carries my heart. And now, it’s ready to meet the world. Hi everyone! I’m thrilled to share the launch of my very own perfume brand — @echelonfragrance. What began as a personal love for fragrance turned into a dream: “Why not create my own?” After months of testing and refining different scent profiles, it’s finally here. Our debut collection features a wide range of scents — from fresh and fruity to musky, floral, and gourmand — with something for everyone. Less than a year ago, I took a leap of faith and launched something that started as just an idea. With the encouragement of my friends and family, that idea turned into a community I hold so close to my heart. When I applied for the JMH LaunchPad competition, I was honestly hesitant. I’ve always been a pretty shy and timid person. Even small class presentations make me nervous. But over these past five weeks, everything changed. The support, the mentorship, and the people I met at @innovatemru pushed me in ways I didn’t expect. They gave me a level of confidence I didn’t know I had, and for that I’m so grateful. It hasn’t been easy balancing school, life, and building this at the same time. It’s been hectic, stressful, and overwhelming at times. But it was all worth it. So excited for what’s ahead for Echelon. And so thankful for everyone who’s been here since day one and continues to support me. It truly means everything. I’ve been selected as a finalist for the JMH LaunchPad Pitch Competition! I’ll be competing alongside some incredibly talented entrepreneurs, pitching my brand in front of a panel of judges and an audience of 300+ people. This journey has been wild, but I’m really proud of how far I have come. I’m so thankful to everyone at @innovatemru for all the time and support they’ve poured into helping me build the brand I’ve always dreamt of.
