Our guy York (@ymegs28) just wrapped up his summer internship at Deloitte in Chicago. He worked in their consulting division, lived in downtown Chicago minutes from Grant Park and had fun exploring the city and making friends.

This weekend Michael (@omeggs) got him moved out of his apartment and moved into Notre Dame where he’ll be a senior RA in Keough Hall (Go Roos!). We missed having him at home this summer, but it was super fun to watch him live it up in Chi-town and mind blowing that he’s entering his final year at Notre Dame. Go Irish!☘️ by @missmeggison

Win or learn.

When @jack.meggison started his junior track and field season with a National Championship at Nike Indoor Nationals, we all had great hopes for how the rest of the season would go. But opportunities bring expectations and expectations can feel like pressure and pressure can mess with your confidence and confidence affects your running.

It was hard season as Jack wrestled with the mental side of running and the disappointment and confusion that comes when your body doesn’t cooperate with your desire.

As parents, we wrestled with how to support him. Did he need a hug or a push? Maybe both? Did he need to talk it out or have a dinner absent of any discussion about running?

We were proud of how Jack reached out to coaches, mental performance experts and track and field enthusiasts alike for wisdom. He humbled himself seeking answers and accepted responsibility when he let down teammates. That’s a lot to embrace for a highly competitive and driven kid in a social media world.

We still feel the scars from this one. Healing is still on the way for him. But we couldn’t be prouder of how Jack continued to work. He showed up even when it would have been easier to hide out or throw in the towel.

For all the moments in which he didn’t win this spring, we trust that the lessons learned and the character built will last long after the spikes are shelved.

National Champs!! 🥇

Thank you, Nike Indoor Nationals and NASF Track for a fantastic weekend for @jack.meggison and his state of Iowa teammates.

Experiencing the NYC, meeting @grantfisher_ , connecting with track and field athletes from all over the country and capping off the weekend with winning the inaugural State Distance Medley Relay for the state of Iowa made for a great finish to Jack’s indoor season! by @missmeggison

☘️ Extended time with York’s friends - funny, kind & bright
☘️ Meeting some of his favorite professors
☘️ Getting 3rd place in the 2004 trivia contest 🙌
☘️ President’s Dinner with the Iowa Crew
☘️ Watching Big 12 and ISU basketball at the hotel
☘️ Time with our oldest and reflecting on the growth he’s experienced at his “home under the dome.”
