It’s been four weeks since my son was murdered, and I went back to work. I worked. I cried. I smiled. There were moments I had to go into the bathroom, break down, wipe my tears, pull myself together, and go back out there.

Then I’d get back to my hotel room and cry all over again. I’d gather myself and do it all over again the next day.

I’m learning how to navigate this journey without my son. It’s not easy. It hurts in ways I can’t even explain. But somehow, I have to keep going. 💔 by @missquinlavel

When I look at her, I see my son Eddie all over her. His smile, his skin, his blood running through her.

Thank God he left a part of himself behind for me to love. She is a part of him. His only daughter. A piece of Eddie that I get to hold onto. She is a part of his legacy that will live on forever.❤️❤️❤️❤️ by @missquinlavel

There are no new memories to make with you, so I found myself going back to the old pictures and videos—grateful that I can still hear your voice, see your face, and hold on to the memories we made.

I’m so grateful to see another birthday, even though my heart is heavy. Rest in peace, my son. ❤️ by @missquinlavel

Tragedy came into my life just weeks before my birthday, so this year was very different. Instead of celebrating the way I normally would, I found myself reflecting, remembering, and missing my son.

This picture is from my birthday last year, and as you can see, my son is right there beside me. Looking at it this year touched a place in my heart I can’t really put into words. I never knew that a year later, this picture would mean so much more to me.

Take the pictures. Record the videos. Laugh, love, and make the memories. You just never know how much those moments will mean to you one day. Now, I have the memories of my one and only son, and I will cherish every single one. ❤️

I’m grateful God allowed me to see another year. This birthday was bittersweet, but I’m trusting Him to carry me through, one day at a time.

Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday, called, texted, reached out, checked on me, prayed for me, and showed me love. It truly means more than you know. ❤️ by @missquinlavel

September 10th was a powerful and meaningful day at Columbia College Chicago for the opening of If Emmett Till Lived: Freedom on American Ground, curated by Dr. Sarah Elizabeth Lewis in collaboration with Rev. Wheeler Parker Jr.

The day included a convening with conversation, music and Q&A, followed by the opening reception at the Museum of Contemporary Photography.

I am so honored and grateful that I had the opportunity to be present and witness this incredible journey unfold—from the documentary work here in Chicago to the travels to Mississippi with Dr. Sarah Lewis.

I want to commend Dr. Sarah Lewis for bringing a perspective to Emmett Till’s story that we have never seen presented in this way before—not only telling us what happened, but asking us to imagine what his life could have been had he lived.

This exhibition is truly something to see. I encourage everyone to come experience it for yourself. It will be on display through December 19th. ❤️ by @missquinlavel

A historic moment at Roberts Temple. Tiffany Tolbert, Co-Director &Vice President of the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund at the National Trust for Historic Preservation, shares the history and significance of Roberts Temple Church of God in Christ moments before the unveiling of its newly restored historic neon sign. This special evening also marked the completion of Phase One and Phase Two of the restoration of Roberts Temple. As dusk fell, we gathered outside to unveil the sign and illuminate it for the first time, bringing it back to life in a way that reflects how Roberts Temple looked in 1955. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has described the completed exterior restoration as bringing Roberts Temple closer to its 1955 appearance. The illuminated sign is more than a restored landmark—it is a symbol of faith, history, remembrance, and resilience. A moment of restoration. A moment of remembrance. A moment for generations to see, experience, and remember. Roberts Temple is shining again. by @missquinlavel
