Amazing screening last night!

A huge thanks again to @nita.spazio And @saledocks for hosting us in Venice. Such an honor to collaborate with the wonderful girls at Nita and to show the work in such an important and inspiring space, if you are in Venice check them both out!

MissVideo4u feels strongly about showing the work in independent spaces that are anti establishment and it was so important to us to be able to share the work in a cultural institution like sale!

Leila and the Wolves by Heiny Srour

Drawing on the Arab heritage of the ‘Arabian Nights’, Leila and the Wolves combines fictional drama, archival footage, fantasy sequences, mosaic pattern, to refute the colonial and male dominated version of history. Leila travels across time and space to explore the collective memory of Arab women in Palestine and Lebanon and their hidden role in historical events.

Intro by Dina A. Ramadan.

Signoravideo4u-> NITA brings MissVideo4u’s third chain letter to Venice.

MissVideo4u is an alternative video distribution network which consists of sharing the work of femme and queer artists from around the world, we create “video chainletter” compilations that we circulate via USB and postal mail. Each video chainletter contains 10 videos by 10 different artists, submissions are always open. The Third Transmission brings together 10 videos from artists worldwide.

NITA is an independent art space in Venice, dedicated to curatorial and editorial experimentation. NITA has also contributed two videos to the chainletter, totaling in 12 videos total.

NITA’s current exhibition Y2K (Youth 2 K1ll) recreates the stereotypical teenage bedroom and its aesthetic: a bubble that appears intimate, safe, and sacred. But what lies behind the walls covered with Britney Spears posters, the makeup, the lollipop-flavored perfumes, and the Hello Kitty pillows? Are teenagers the ones who decide what to desire, love, and be? In the context of the exhibition’s theme, the screening will be followed by DJ Rochelle Pura’s set which will feature music associated to teenage girlhood, but all written by a man. by @missvideo4u

The feminine urge, a screening in collaboration with @videoclubworld is screening @laslo.baby and hosted by @causeandeffect.bln one week from today October 8th, doors 7pm, screening 7:30 Harzer Straße 24 Neukolln 12059

“The Feminine Urge To —“, explores the spectacle of hysteria, the aging feminine body, and its representations under the male gaze.

This screening is a correspondence-dialogue between both collectives, and a conversation between our archives.

First shown in NYC this summer, a slightly altered program will be presented!

In 1971, artist Faith Ringgold created a monumental painting “For the Women’s House” for the women incarcerated at Rikers Island jail. Fifty years later, artist Mary Enoch Elizabeth Baxter, who gave birth in prison 15 years ago, finds herself banding together with an eclectio group of activists, politicians, artists, corrections officers and Faith Ringgold herself to free the artwork with the ultimate goal of freeing the women. Paint Me a Road Out of Here is a wild tale of the painting’s whitewashed journey and the two artists who challenged the same powerful and oppressive institutions, a half century apart, with their artwork, their voices and their shared, persistent goals.
