In this series the body is not exposed…it is revealed. Each figure stands unguarded, not in isolation but in alliance.
Vulnerability becomes a shared language that dissolves the boundary between self and other. What might feel fragile alone becomes something resolute and even defiant.

These forms do not perform for the gaze. They exist for one another. In their closeness, there is power and understanding.

I like to believe that when we enter this world through our mother’s womb we enter into something sacred. Birth is more than a biological event. It is an initiation. We move from the darkness of the womb into light with an unseen spirit guardian beside us.

I imagine these guardians as a presence that moves with us through life. They do not control our path. They strengthen us when life becomes heavy. They carry us through grief and gently push us forward when fear or doubt holds us back. When darkness clouds our vision they remind us to look toward the light.

At the heart of this belief is the power of the matriarch. We enter through woman. We are formed in her body. Her heartbeat is our first rhythm and her womb our first home. Through her we inherit more than flesh. We carry her resilience, intuition and strength. We also carry wounds. Generational trauma can live in the body as surely as strength does. Healing becomes sacred work when we confront what has been passed down and choose awareness over repetition. We soften where those before us had to harden. We turn survival into something more conscious and continue the lineage with greater understanding.

I see spirit guardians as an extension of this feminine force. They represent the part of us that knows when to keep going. The instinct that tells us to rise. The strength that exists even when we cannot see it.

Matriarchal power to me is not about control. It is about nurturing life and giving it room to become its own. It is strength without force. It is the ability to hold, protect and ultimately let go.

In this series I explore this unseen connection between feminine strength, protection and vulnerability. I think about what we carry within us and the forces that help guide us through life.

Perhaps we are never truly alone. Perhaps something has been walking beside us all along. ✨ by @mister_michelle
