ORANGEBURG, SC. Some leaders wait for a title… others prepare for it long before it’s given. John Seay-Oliver, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, has officially been elected as the 13th Mister South Carolina State University.

BUILT BEFORE THE CROWN. From the moment he stepped on campus, John has been intentional about impact. A junior Agribusiness major, 3-time Presidential Scholar, and member of the Dr. Emily E. Clyburn Honors College and 1890 Ag Innovation Scholars Program—where he was named the 2024 Innovation Honoree of the Year—he has balanced excellence in academics, athletics, and leadership. As a dedicated student-athlete on the SC State Men’s Basketball Team, he embodies discipline and consistency both on and off the court.

A STANDARD OF SERVICE. Serving as E-Board Mister of 101 Black Men of SCSU and a member of the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., John has consistently shown up for his campus through mentorship, service, and leadership. A 2-time Mister 101, he has also played a key role in shaping campus culture by helping host and curate major events such as the Black Market Fashion Showcase, Greek Step Shows, and various student-centered experiences that uplift and unite the student body.

JSØ — JUST SERVE OTHERS. His campaign was grounded in one principle: that true leadership is built through service before, during, and after the crown. Through his platform, John emphasizes initiative, purpose-driven service, and embracing others through connection and growth. His mission is to give South Carolina State University the recognition and respect it deserves while continuing to positively showcase the institution on a broader stage.

THE NEXT REPRESENTATIVE. As the 13th Mister South Carolina State University, John Seay-Oliver represents a generation of leaders committed to purpose, consistency, and impact. His reign stands on the belief that leadership is not about being seen—it’s about showing up.

Congratulations to the 13th Mister South Carolina State University 👑 by @misterscsu

How’d It Turn Into a Competition? 🤣

The Meat Up brought agriculture, career paths, and hands-on learning together during SC State 1890 Agriculture & Land-Grant Week — and what started as a lesson in AG turned into a friendly grilling competition. 😂🔥

Who really had the best plate? 👀
