My May Flower in full bloom. Maverick is NINE!! Like NINE NINE! The NINE jussstt before 10! That nine. 😬 Two things you can’t tell Mav - 1. He’s not an NFL QB. 2. Nothing about his Mama. Mav is BRILLANT. Truly. He’s so kind and thoughtful. He plays piano, and tennis. He wrote and published 2 books this school year. He directed and starred in a movie with some of his buddies. He LOVES reading and science. He’s growing a plant and dissecting an animal in the same day. He says he loves to hear me laugh so he comes up with ways to keep my cracking up. He’s a great friend, a leader. He’s the kinda kid who refuses to stay in a hotel without doormen and balcony, but also wants to sleep in the outside in the woods in a tent. My little May baby. The word LOVE is just simply not enough- Thank you for letting me one of your little frens 😂 I was born to give you life🌼 by @mistyjradio

A decade of birthdays. Things are different, and some things never change.

2016: In Miami with my Day 1’s. My life was simple - Radio, TV, Chanel bags, friends/family and flights.

2017: A year later - in Columbus: I was a human Air BNB.

2018: A year after that- Living in North Carolina - But a meet up for dinner in Columbus with my village. Simple. Necessary.

2019: Proof- wishes come true.

2020: Pandemic Birthday. Realized everything I needed was inside - literally. Mav is simply my favorite song.

2021: I needed some outside action this year - with my insiders - in Miami- again.

2022: Living in Atlanta - Miami in May - somethin bout it.

2023: Visiting Columbus - Ring Around The Rosie. We all fell down. -not shown

2024: Tulum: Mexico in May has a ring to it.

2025: Puerto Rico: Sometimes you gotta pop out.

2026: Sometimes ya gotta act out. Mav threw 4 TD passes to kick off my day, and I shared space with my some of God babies. Pro tip: don’t blow out your candle -let em burn 💫 by @mistyjradio

(SWIPE) My mother has Dementia. There- I said it out loud (in writing) so now it’s real. For those who aren’t familiar, it’s a relentless condition that causes memory loss. Not “where did I put my keys” forgetfulness, the kinda memory loss that I hope she remembers my name. She calls my son-her only grandchild, my brother’s name. Mav smiles, is graceful and never corrects her. Reminding her is too painful. I’ve tried to fight this reality, blame it, blame her, myself, family members. I’m a Taurus for those that like to associate the type of crazy you are based on the calendar year. But now I’ve surrendered, and now this part is so much softer. Instead of me questioning God every 20 seconds, “why my mom?!” I’ve accepted what is. So spending time together is listening to music she remembers all of the words to, and wheelchair dancing. It’s beautiful watching her sing. The take away-take LOTS of pictures, visual reminders of the good stuff. Share time together-so the memories are shared. My mom really wanted Mav to take piano lessons, so he’s taking them. He plays for her, and she sings along. It’s music to everyone’s ears. As we close out November -National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month-remember to make memories in REAL life. And THANK YOU to my village who consistently show up for me and my mother during one of the most challenging chapters in our lives. We’ll love you always. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men. Black men are 70% more likely to be diagnosed and twice as likely to die from it. My grandfather unfortunately lost his battle to this disease. Zero Prostate Cancer is on a mission to help save 100,000 lives by 2035 and they invited me and the @blackinformationnetwork to help spread the word. @montelljordan @mrmathewknowles (as in Beyonce’s dad- Like Beyonce Beyonce) and @ernie.johnson shared their personal stories with me. @drleanneburnham shared the importance of adding vitamin D to your diet- that’s for MEN AND WOMEN! @zeroprostatecancer has tons of info. Detroit Dump🩵 One of my best friends @lexivision had an extremely important role in the NFL Draft this weekend. She and @momentstrategies helped break NFL Draft weekend records, and I along with her family had a front row seat. She has celebrated me, and traveled for me since we met working in TV news together more than 10 years ago. Detroit is special, I was on the radio there too, so it was kinda like going home. Grateful to be able to see and celebrate my friends.
