🎣 Grass Carp! 🎣

I started fishing in the late ‘90s, and this afternoon I finally caught my first ever Grass Carp.
.
I’ve managed to get out for a few afternoon sessions over the last few weeks, all spent surface fishing on a club lake. The previous trips were a little frustrating, as I just couldn’t get the fish to take the hook bait with any confidence.
.
A few small tweaks to the hook pattern and hooklink made all the difference today. The fish were much more confident, and the result was a session I’ll remember for a long time.

🧠 Rethink 🧠

Over the past 3 weeks, the weed in the lake has gone a bit crazy. After 3 sessions and no fish using my usual tactics, it was time for a rethink and a different approach.
.
A few small changes to combat the weed, and on a short morning session today, I was rewarded with this lovely 30lb 14oz Common on the new setup 🎣
.
Confidence plays a huge part in fishing, and changing something you know can work isn’t always easy. But sometimes adapting is exactly what’s needed.

A couple of sessions with the rods out and some great results along the way.
.
🐟 34lb 2oz rare mirror carp on an early morning short session (1 & 2).
.
🐟 Recent overnighter (3, 4, 5 & 6).
With the hot weather, we started by stalking carp off the surface and managed four between us. We then switched lakes, put the rigs on the deck for the cats, and it wasn’t long before the rods were away
.
🐟 39lb 4oz new PB for Reg.
🐟 Followed by a 27lb and a 33lb through the night.
.

Short session mayhem….

.
Found a group of fish this afternoon and 4 fish graced the net.
.
.
20 minutes in and a double take unfolded, with both being landed, going 23lb and 25lb.
.
Followed by 2 mirrors, going 27lb 12oz (1st 📸) & 30lb 2oz (2nd 📸)

Nice couple of hours in the sun this afternoon…… ☔️.

The common (23lb 8oz) came after 20 minutes with just a slight breeze 🍃.

.
The mirror (24lb 9oz) however came when the heavens had opened 🌊. All good fun.

Fishing for a solo bite and it came at 3pm this afternoon, an absolute screamer from around 100 yards, weeded me up a fair few times and battled hard
throughout the fight, until she went into the net. What a magnificent creature 🐟
