This year I had the incredible privilege to visit the Davis Mountains Preserve of The Nature Conservancy in Texas (@nature_tx) not once, but twice. If I haven’t gushed about it to you yet, this is my favorite place on the planet. There is too much to love about this place. It was incredible to document the difference between May and October caused by monsoon season in the sky island ecosystem!
The flora and fauna, the night sky, and the cool temperatures cannot be usurped. The only place I’ve been more productive is in Lubbock, and my backlog of Davis Mountains Preserve shots is immense!
The Davis Mountains were formerly known as the Limpia Mountains, like the Limpia Creek, meaning “cleansing” in Spanish. Renamed for then U.S. Secretary of War Jeff Davis, who turned traitor against our Union, these mountains never lost their cleansing nature. The Nature Conservancy preserves and protects this illustrious gem of the trans-Pecos.
