California and 11 other states have filed a lawsuit to stop Paramount’s proposed $110-billion acquisition of Warner Bros. The states are asking a court to prevent the merger from going through.

The states argue that combining the two entertainment giants would:

•Reduce competition in the movie, TV, and streaming industries.

•Give the merged company too much control over film distribution and cable television.

•Potentially lead to higher prices for consumers.

•Reduce the variety and quality of content.

•Result in job losses across Hollywood and the media industry.

Paramount, on the other hand, says the merger would:

•Make it more competitive against major tech and streaming companies.

•Improve efficiency.

•Increase investment in films and television programming.

L.A is the first city to synchronize all of its traffic lights.

The system, called ATSAC (Automated Traffic Surveillance and Control), connects nearly 4,400 signalized intersections across the city’s 469 square miles. It uses magnetic sensors embedded in the pavement at intersections to send real-time traffic data through fiber-optic cables to a control center, where software automatically makes second-by-second adjustments to optimize traffic flow.

The city is now working on next-generation systems for the 2028 Olympics that would allow vehicles to communicate directly with traffic lights using 5G technology.
