For forty years, Manchester, Detroit and Chicago have been in a conversation the rest of the world has only half understood. Detroit caught the cold signal of the UK’s new wave and built techno from it. Chicago’s warehouses fired back with house. Manchester pulled it all in and made it its own. Not borrowed. Absorbed.

Mither is that exchange made into a person. Raised and based in Manchester, shaped over three decades by the same transatlantic current — the grief, the defiance, the dancefloor as the only honest room left.

Industrial not as aesthetic - as fact.

Another beautiful way to start the day, listening to this wonderful play of Be Kind from the broadcasting luminary that is @afrodeutsche… nothing but ❤️ and appreciation

Also some @mither.75 live footage with @peter_pipes from the legendary @kabal_sheffeel last night, seeing and hearing all these tracks out in the wild feels pretty good, we’re not gonna lie ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏿

3 hours at WHP last night and it still didn’t feel long enough, could’ve gone all night… full set recorded for Apple Spatial Audio and will be up soon. Maybe with a couple future new MITHER bits on there, maybe 🤷🏻‍♂️

MITHER - BE KIND EP… release day. Now available on all DSPs, and to buy on all digital download sites, including our RPMA Bandcamp page.

A few words on this before we let it breath for a while… it’s been such a journey to get here (2 years almost since I got to hear it), anyone that knows the man behind Mither is already an exceptional talent, 30 years deep and a legend in what he’s know for.

But from the moment I found out he was making this incredible house music for his own personal outlet, I instantly connected with it and knew it would hit a nerve with people, and it certainly has. We’ve been very careful to take this steady, but we can tell you now there are at least 40+ tracks as good, if not better than this EP. This is just the start…

Test pressings for the lathe run should be with us next week, then will go into production for the first 50 that sent us their details. Full vinyl press to follow via Clone Distribution before the year is out.

One last thing. A very special shout out goes to @beezoup . The catalyst that got this project going, without her who knows where we’d be, but because of her, here we are… and @gemma_krysko for urging me to take it on wholeheartedly - big ❤️

The feedback we have received off the back of the debut EP from Mither has completely blown us away… as anyone who releases music in this day and age knows, it is incredibly hard to get music heard, regardless of genre and quality. Some of the most astonishing music out there will often go under the radar, so when something like this hits home and resonates in a way that it has, it is a great feeling for all involved, especially for the artist, and us as a label.

We have been inundated with messages and emails from people wanting the initial limited edition lathe run of 50 copies on 12”. The people who messaged in order will be the first to receive a link to purchase.

The good news is that we will be pressing a Various Artists RPMA press later in the year (which will include the full EP and some more label tracks) which means everyone who has enquired will be able to pick up a copy

We thank you deeply for all the kind words on this project, and as it’s only the start..: everyone who has shown support at this early stage will be the first to hear via our mailing list.

MITHER is that exchange made into a person: the pseudonym of DRS, three decades deep in Manchester and one of the city’s most recognisable voices - here stripped of the name, the history and the expectation that comes with it.

What’s left is the current itself. The grief, the defiance, the dance floor as the only honest room left in the building. Two tracks that don’t ask to be liked. Be Kind is an instruction delivered through gritted teeth. Cos I Need It isn’t a want. Industrial not as aesthetic. As fact - mills, rain, red brick, machines that outlived the people who ran them.

RPMA is proud to be letting this amazing new project into the world, and this is only the start...
