I always get asked, why do I travel almost 3 hours away to work a camp for 8 days.

Being able to see a group of boys come in on Sunday not even wanting to talk to Thursday night giving the performance of their life and having a blast. I’m grateful to be in the position where I get to witness growth and I’m a better person because of it.

It’s not goodbye July Basic (the best boy dorm by far😬), it’s simply see you later.

Life is really special. It has a way of placing you exactly where you’re meant to be — even when it’s nowhere you expected.
A little over 13 years ago, I walked into Brewster demanding a job working with high school StuCo. Brewster immediately laughed and sent me to work with elementary students instead 😖. (He clearly misunderstood the assignment.)

Then I walked into the pre-k classrooms and saw Ian Cardenas break dancing across the room… and in that moment, I realized (maybe it was I that misunderstood the assignment) and this was exactly where I was supposed to be.

A year later, I learned how to use my “big voice.”
A few more years later, I started an etiquette club.
Then came leadership.
Then running club.

By the time those pre-k students became fifth graders, we had a running club with over 200 students, our leadership groups were hosting events, and I even got to take a few of them to New York City.

The memories I made, the tears I wiped, the noses that wiped on me, the throw up that I cleaned, the lessons I learned, the students I met, and the bracelets I had to endure 😣 made this experience a 10/10. I truly wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Now fast forward seven more years… those break-dancing pre-k kids who became traveling fifth graders are about to graduating seniors. And I am damn proud to say I got to be there for their entire journey. 🥹🥹 starting and ending with them 🥺 taken in Santa Fe South High School by @mitri121

Final big project is done and now….. just a few more days.
I’m proud of my kids.
The last four years with them have been the wildest rollercoaster ever but I wouldn’t change any of it. taken in Santa Fe South High School by @mitri121
