a letter from @amberygo 🍒:

Hi I’m Amber! I’m a rising sophomore from Annapolis, MD studying 6-14 (Computer Science, Economics, and Data Science) and 15-2 (Business Analytics). I’m a member of Varsity Swim and Dive and an Associate Advisor. I’m also doing UROPs at Sloan and the Media Lab!

After hearing from upperclassmen at CPW and teammates involved in Panhel, I learned how supportive and diverse this community is. I also knew that I wanted to meet more people with similar interests and values. These reasons were what initially drew me into signing up for recruitment! During each conversation I had with members from all different chapters, I heard so many diverse perspectives which expanded my sense of all the different passions and experiences gained through MIT. Recruitment was a great opportunity for me to explore and open my eyes to all the amazing, unique people and communities that make up MIT. Looking back on my experience, I was truly able to learn more about myself as a person.

My advice would be to go into each chapter and conversation with an open mind, and with the intention of just meeting new people and seeing who you best click with! I would say that even if you aren’t completely set on greek life, still sign up for recruitment; the community you find through this experience and the people you meet along the way could definitely make your MIT experience so much better. Also, in the end recruitment is entirely your own experience. Ultimately, I think it’s super important to simply follow your gut because no one knows you better than you know yourself!

From getting food and hanging out in the skouse with my famlines, to exploring Boston and late-night psetting (and maseeh late-night) with friends from all different chapters, Panhel has truly made such a positive impact on my time at MIT so far, and I can’t wait to see how it plays a role on my future!
