UPDATE: Nanuk has now been at the UF hospital in Gainesville for 9 days. He has received 3 transfusions, roughly 1 every couple of days as his blood needed a boost. This buys him time as the doctors try different medications and combinations to get his body to respond and fight the suspected parasite or infection that he may have come into contact with, which set this all in motion. Tests may take another week or so to return, which will hopefully give us a definitive cause and continued course of action. He has a dedicated intern and a fabulous Doctor who are taking great care of him and the staff have all fallen in love with him (how could you not) and now want a Jap Spitz of their own.

In the meantime, he has remained relatively stable over the past 48 hours. There has been a slight but steady drop in his platelets still, but it has been moderate. They are going to allow me to bring him home for the weekend provided I promise to return with him on Monday or at any sign of decline. Watching his respiratory rate, activity level, fever, jaundice or any visual sign of the anemia worsening.

The weekend with him is sadly not "home for good" yet, but we will take the win! He will be back at UF on Monday, but I am grateful to be able to snuggle him and give him some comfort and normalcy for a couple of days. His pack misses him very much! Maki looks at me with worry in her eyes every time I return home from a visit without him. She will surely sleep more soundly having her whole pack together with her... As we celebrated David turning 60 we also contemplated our 41 years together. We have been through our share of life’s blessings, struggles, and have faced mortality far more than any couple should have to, but we faced every step together with a bit of humor. 😂. Sharing undying Love and endless respect through it all! Looking forward to my 60th with him in a few years. by @mitsukijapspitz
