My art consists of illustrations, animations, oil paintings and doodles, portraying different ideas relating to the struggle of the individual, current events, things going on in my country and the human experience.

Introducing Wissam Shawkat
Born in Basra in 1974, Wissam Shawkat is an award-winning artist and designer based in Dubai, with a focus on Arabic calligraphy and typography. His work departs from classic calligraphy, yet maintains it’s craftsmanship. Since 2003 he has been working on a new script named after himself (Al Wissam Style), and in recent years, he started ‘Calligraforms’, an art movement that merges the graphic qualities found in classic letterforms and western Abstraction and Cubism. Wissam has had many solo shows and has participated in many group exhibitions. His calligraphy and typography designs have appeared in several books and magazines about art and design.

“It has been said that Wissam Shawkat is a rule-breaker. A modest individual, this loaded label is not something he’ll freely apply himself, but, that aside, it is impossible to deny that challenge is an ever present theme. We see it even in the way he goes about making new work – employing traditional tools and materials to produce a contemporary aesthetic. There is purpose in the liberating juxtaposition of using handmade paper reed pens and traditional inks to create works that ask us to think again about what Arabic calligraphy is and can be – a central Calligraformic characteristic and something that sits comfortably with an artist like Shawkat, whose less prescriptive route to Arabic calligraphy has always left him somewhere on the periphery of tradition.”

Introducing Shaima Al-Tamimi!

Shaima Al-Tamimi is a Yemeni-East African, visual storyteller based in the GCC. Her work is inspired by social and cultural issues reflective of her own personal story. She explores themes relating to patterns and impacts of intergenerational trauma, societal culture and healing.
She says "Having never lived in Yemen, one of my earliest connection to my roots was through traditional beauty rituals I would observe from the women in our family.
Sidr leaves, Hadrami Honey, Henna
These three staple ingredients make up every woman’s beauty routine and they make sure to never run out of ways to import them from Yemen through visiting relatives to the UAE or small Yemeni herbal shops in other neighborhoods. From the intensely sweet Hadhrami honey that we use as face masks, to thick and fragrant concoctions of hair conditioner made from powdered Sedr leaves. These were beautiful practices that brought women together for much needed self care and beauty time which nowadays are being replaced by clinical cosmetic procedures to maintain a youthful appearance."
She was a Photography & Social Justice 2020 Fellow at the Magnum Foundation where she developed her award winning film “Don’t Get Too Comfortable”, which was nominated for the Orizzonti Award for Best Short film at Venice Film Festival (La Biennale) and won the Bronze Tanit Award at Carthage Film Festival in 2021. Her works have been supported by Arab Documentary Photography program,Women Photograph, the Prince Claus Fund, Tasweer, to name a few.

Yemeni Beauty Rituals
Having never lived in Yemen, one of my earliest connection to my homeland was through traditional beauty rituals practiced by the women in my family
Sidr leaves; Hadrami Honey; Henna
Three staple ingredients make up every woman’s beauty routine who make sure to never run out of ways to import them from Yemen through visiting relatives coming to the UAE.
From the intensely sweet Hadhrami honey that we use as face masks, to thick and fragrant concoctions of hair conditioner made from powdered Sedr leaves. These are beautiful long lost practices that bring us together for much needed self care and beauty time. In many ways, this project is my way of celebrating the beauty of our rituals and agricultural resources, finding a connection to a country I never got to call home whilst documenting traditions that should not be forgotten.

Meet Ana D’Castro!

Ana D’ Castro is a Portuguese visual artist and architect. Born in 1984 in Portugal, since an early age, Ana lived and worked in different parts of the world including Brazil, Singapore, France, Switzerland and U.A.E. With a master’s degree in Architecture, her works are strongly influenced by a mathematical base set in the foundation of proportion, scale, volume and color. From paintings to art installations, Ana’s work is often abstract and relies on the principle of deconstructing an element to its bare essence. Nurtured and educated to appreciate nature from an early age, it is her biggest inspiration. She intensely absorbs everyday moments like the sunrises, sunsets, visualizes the manipulation of colors, textures and translates it into her artworks.

“Ana defines her practice as “ARTchitecture, representing the symbiosis between Art and Architecture, blurring the boundaries between the two and exploring higher levels of complexity by doing so. Ana feels that her intensive obsession with dimensions, proportions, balance and scale draws her into a compulsive alignment; the confinement and rigidity of thought, which ultimately allows her to be more flexible and free. Her process involves an abstract concept of equilibrium and balance between individual pieces of a composition; once the balance and order between proportions, alignment and location of each artwork is achieved, she begins her journey of colors!”

Introducing Seun Okunola!

Okunola Victor Oluwaseun (Seun Okunola), also known as 4D, is a Nigerian artist born on July 30th
1995, in Ede-Osun state Nigeria .
Okunola is an artist who has devoted so much commitment through consistency and handwork in order to
advance in his skills.
Seun has trained and mastered a type of art known as «impasto art». Impasto is a technique used in painting where paint is laid on an area of the surface in very thick layers, usually thick enough that the brush or painting-knife stroke are visible. Most of his works are used to express human feelings, human lifestyles and nature.
Okunola has since worked with renowned artist Dr. Bolaji Ogunwo, a veteran artist who was influence and motivated the performance of others artist through his enormous achievements in the industry.
"Dr. Bolaji Ogunwo is my mentor and I have learnt so much from him which is so evident in the style of art I create”.
Most of Okunola’s work can be sighted in videos and found in the office of notable comedian, Mr. Macaroni and the general overseas of the redeemed Christian church and many others.
