The darkness was part of the lighting plan.

Part one looked at how the lighting was designed across the home rather than room by room.

Part two moves outside - where the same thinking continues through the architecture and landscape.

Not everything needed to be illuminated. Some surfaces were highlighted, some pathways gently defined, and others were deliberately allowed to disappear.

Because good lighting isn’t always about adding more light.

Sometimes it’s about deciding what you want someone to notice.

A celebration of considered design, where architecture, landscape and interior detailing come together seamlessly.

From the clean geometric forms and warm timber finishes to the sculptural central courtyard and carefully layered lighting, every element has been designed to create a sense of calm, connection and understated luxury

Some lighting decisions make sense room by room. Others only make sense when you look at the house as a whole.

At Rüya, repetition, reflections, sightlines and even the spaces in between became part of the lighting plan - creating connections without simply repeating the same fittings everywhere.

Part 01 looks at some of the quieter decisions behind the finished result.

Part 02 - light, shadow + sightlines… coming next.

CLOUDBREAK 🌴🌊

Now Australia’s Home of the Year.

Stone is the soul of this build and we got to shape every inch of it.

Annukka cobblestone paves the driveway, setting the tone before you even reach the front door. Annukka walling wraps the exterior as striking feature cladding, catching light differently throughout the day.

Inside, Arenisca crazy paving brings texture and warmth to every bathroom, finished to the same exacting standard throughout. And around the rooftop pool, a hand-mitred coping detail creates a flawless line where stone meets water.

That level of craft is exactly why Cloudbreak didn’t just take out Home of the Year, it also won Bathroom Design of the Year, at the HIA Australia Housing Awards.

This is what natural stone can do when it’s given the space to lead.
