Most of all… to finally sleep comfortably! 😩

I don’t know how braids/twists manage to keep me in a chokehold because I’m never happier than when they come out 🤣 time to try all the new products, see what’s good and most of all - figure out if I remember how to do a wash & go! 😅

Cécred has ARRIVED! Exclusively @spacenk 🇬🇧🥳

The launch 🚀 pop-up immersed all of our senses in the @cecred universe: from being enveloped in the hypnotic Temple Oud hair perfume, to tasting deliciously shimmering chocolate brownies ✨, while watching stunning performances and trying ALL the products under expert guidance 👩🏾‍🏫 (thank you @zateeshabarbour 🫶🏾)… plus there were prizes?! I had a ball 🤪✌🏾

I particularly loved that the whole team were there actively ensuring we had a good time @theebeepee @dr.kariwill Nichelle 🫶🏾

Every year after Notting Hill Carnival, when the feathers have fallen and all the masqueraders have posted their content, social media is flooded with horrible comments deliberately misunderstanding the celebration. So here are a few things you may not know about the second largest carnival in the world 😉

While many of us in the UK view it just as our a local carnival, Notting Hill Carnival is a massive, world-class event. It’s Europe’s largest street festival, second only to Rio Carnival in Brazil. Every August, the streets of West London transform welcoming around two million people into a sea of color, dance, and cultural celebration.

It’s rooted in resilience. Back in the late 1950s, West London was facing intense racial tension, culminating in the heartbreaking Notting Hill race riots and the murder of Antiguan 🇦🇬 Kelso Cochrane. In response, activists like Claudia Jones decided to use our culture to heal and fight back. What started as a defiant indoor Caribbean carnival in 1959 officially spilled onto the streets in 1966 (so it’s a bit older than 60!) It was born out of a need to claim space, stand tall against racism, and demand unity.

Perhaps the most poignant element of the modern route is its deep connection to its local community. Because Grenfell Tower is visible from parts of the parade route, the Carnival observes a 72-second silence at 3pm on both days over the weekend. Everyone from mas bands and sound systems to the millions of attendees, falls quiet to honor the 72 lives lost in the 2017 tragedy, serving as a powerful reminder that Carnival remains, at its heart, about solidarity.

One of the most unique things about Notting Hill Carnival, in my opinion, are the sound systems. In 1973, the Jamaican-style speaker stacks were invited to join mas, steelpan, soca, and calypso as a fifth element that would change the future of UK music. The soul shaking bass of reggae, ska and dub still dominate the street corners away from the parade route, and are a living history of British music scene.
