Meet Dr. Fred Bereskin

Associate Professor of Finance. C4TT Faculty Fellow. And the person making sure finance students at Trulaske graduate knowing how to actually use AI — not just talk about it.

Dr. Bereskin partnered with C4TT to bring real AI tools into his classroom, so students build confidence with emerging technology before they ever step into industry.

His research on corporate finance and innovation has been published in some of the top journals in the field and featured by Harvard and Columbia Law School. He’s also a CFA with real industry experience in asset management and banking.

This is C4TT in action. 🎓

Real data. Real business leaders. Real pressure.

C4TT teamed up with Altria for the Altria Corporate Challenge, and our students showed up. Teams had a few hours to dig into real business data, lean on AI to make sense of it, and pitch their ideas straight to Altria's team.

Tim Sebolt and Bryce Rudolph found a market nobody else was serving, and built Boltara Scaling around it in under 6 months through the C4TT fellowship.

They run Meta ad campaigns for surface finishing companies, a space with zero playbooks to borrow from. Results so far: a 9x return on ad spend for one client, and another where $576 turned into a $120,000 pipeline.

Their advice: find a problem worth solving, get creative, and stay flexible, because the plan you start with won't be the plan you finish with.

Meet N. Syam, Associate Professor of Marketing at the Trulaske College of Business.

Through the C4TT Faculty Fellows program, Dr. Syam collaborated with C4TT to bring hands-on AI learning directly into the classroom. Students explored how AI can transform the future of sales by building their own agents designed to analyze customer communications and evaluate purchase readiness.

By learning through doing, students gained firsthand experience with the technologies and skills shaping the future of business.

One week ago, our C4TT interns wrapped up an incredible summer with capstone presentations in front of faculty and industry professionals.

It took 8 weeks to get there. A bootcamp week with Gemini, Zapier, GoHighLevel, and Lovable, then 5 weeks of teams building real projects with those tools (plus a bunch of other AI platforms along the way).

So proud of this crew and everything they accomplished! And a big thank you to the faculty and industry pros who showed up for them all summer.

Ever wonder what real consulting experience looks like as a business student?

This semester, 5 Trulaske students spent a full semester researching AI and automation for Lakota Coffee Co. — a Columbia institution since 1992. Real client, real research, real recommendations.

Here’s what they did:

Mapped day-to-day workflows with the owners
Evaluated 12+ tools including Zapier, HubSpot, and Power BI

Surveyed 8 other local businesses for broader context
Presented live recommendations to real decision-makers

The plot twist? The owners decided not to implement anything — and that turned out to be one of the most valuable lessons of the semester. Knowing when not to recommend a tool is a real consulting skill.

Catching up on the C4TT Summer Internship: weeks three and four brought a shift in project scope, and our interns handled it without missing a beat.

They pushed their demos further and went deeper into their projects, adapting their approach along the way.

We also had the pleasure of hosting Cody Miller and Lindsay Hing for presentations, who offered feedback, real-world perspective, and guidance on communicating progress with confidence.

Proud of how our interns rose to the challenge.
