From the wood/soda fire, next up is an experiment: I mixed a wood ash glaze from a recipe on @ceramicartsnetwork based on a single photo in the online recipe archive, using ashes donated from a coworker’s fire pit. Got some interesting and unexpected results… Based on the contributor (@ericordway ) and from finding his IG and website later, I feel like this glaze needs to get to cone 11/12 to be successful. That, and my amateur glaze-mixing and dubious application skills probably contributed to the results you see here. Glaze is titled Old School Celadon. Mugs from the wood chamber. Shoutout to @taylorsijan for the great mug construction workshop. I’ve gotten so many compliments on the style - if you don’t follow her you should! Mugs again Mug A close up Mug A Mug A - drippy and bubbles?!? Mug B is moodier Mug B - love that toasty flashing on the bare porcelain Whoopsie! Have to find the dremel to tidy that foot. Soda firing tea bowls - this is where things got weird. Crawling Crawling Yikes Loving the crazing where we were getting SO CLOSE to the Celadon I was after, but then also those popped glaze bubbles 😬 Tester bowls on various clay bodies A lot of people are loving this one but all I see is the crawling (flaws) Clockwise from top left: @plainsmanclaysltd H441G, Plainsman P700 porcelain, @potterysupplyhouse Toast, Plainsmand Buffstone, Plainsman H440. Not 100% sure of placement but my theory is the non-crawled pots were in wood while the crawled pots were in the soda chamber that I don’t think got quite to cone 10. Bonus: a tiny Tiki on @tuckers.pottery Pro Stone. by @mj_ceramic_arts
Stamping my pots is fine, if you catch them at just the right dryness level. But I made this faux “silkscreen” of my revamped logo using my Cricut, and tested it out today on some Nerikomi mugs where the stamp was not very defined. I dig it 😎 by @mj_ceramic_arts
Next up is our series of “this is all ONE SINGLE GLAZE!” Because it’s a mixed glaze, I will share that it’s known to me as Isaac’s Bossa Nova and it does really cool stuff when the soda hits just right 👌 Closer look Plates for meeee out of the wood kiln on @tuckers.pottery Pro Stone. Levels of toastiness (is that a word?) vary based on location in the kiln. Tiki sculpture, 2026. Carved with my recently acquired @buschkraftstudio dragonfly carvers 💪 NOT an alien although I understand the alien comments, calling him E.T., etc. Two tea bowls (maybe?), both @tuckers.pottery Pro Stone, both glazed with Isaac’s Bossa Nova, but one was fired in Alice’s wood side and the other on the Soda side. Another view Tester bowls on various clays. Clockwise from top left: @plainsmanclaysltd H441G, Plainsman Buffstone (low fire??), @potterysupplyhouse Toast, Plainsman P700 porcelain, Plainsman H440. I’m not 100% sure of the kiln placement, but based on seeing them laid out together, I believe the three former were in the wood kiln and the latter two were on the soda side. Closeup of the H440 test bowl Closer shot of the P700 porcelain bowl in soda (I think??) compared with the wood fired bowls Bottoms of bowls showing the clay bodies. Glaze ran onto one of the waddings on the porcelain bowl, need to find the dremel. by @mj_ceramic_arts
Let’s play a game called “all of these pieces are just ONE GLAZE.” Wood firing is truly magical. My favourite pieces from the firing are in this group. @theye11ow @clayspacestudio Little moon jars Moon jar A Moon jar B Mugs - you can see the difference that kiln placement makes. That ash 😍 Just a little tester bowl but I think this is my #1 fave of the entire group 😍 by @mj_ceramic_arts
1 plate. All that remains. (I’ll have a cool before and after though!) by @mj_ceramic_arts

Baby’s first slip cast mold! First attempt with a slightly less precious Mexican Coke bottle, before attempting with my vintage glass bottles I picked up in Aus. Cottle boards aren’t exactly 90 degrees but close enough for government work, as the saying goes. Who needs a backyard? 💪💪 by @mj_ceramic_arts

Pray for these little espresso cups. Frost is no joke. I don’t mind wet-sanding. I get a sneak preview of the colours. No test tiles for these - I’m living on the edge! 😈 #torontopottery #nerikomi #porcelain #ceramics #ceramicarts by @mj_ceramic_arts
