Proverbs 22:29. It states:

"Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank."

Proverbs 22:29 suggests that those who are diligent, skilled, and excel in their work will be recognized and rewarded with opportunities to serve and interact with people of high status, such as kings or leaders. It emphasizes the value of hard work, expertise, and excellence in one's profession, indicating that such qualities will lead to elevated positions and significant recognition.

Are you honing your skills and striving for excellence in your work? Remember, dedication and mastery in what you do can open doors to extraordinary opportunities. Keep pushing forward, and you might find yourself standing before kings."

I remember applying for Special Education in uni and honestly not even knowing why. The only thing I knew was that there were job opportunities once you studied the course. When I got home, my dad asked what course I’d applied for, and I was actually scared to tell him. The moment I said it, he carried me up I didn’t know that he had studied Special Education/Rehabilitation as a second degree. I wanted sign language, but I had never even seen a Deaf person before I applied.

From then on, my dad would make me watch NTA, which often had signing classes. I started with knowing fruits, then gradually moved from the alphabet, to two letter words, then three, then creating sentences, to interpreting lectures and now, a certified sign language interpreter to deaf-blindness. I don’t think I would have ever been as good in any other course as I’ve been in this one. Today, I’m happy to be an interpreter and to be part of the disability family, because there truly is ability in disability.

Happy International Sign Language Day and Happy Deaf Awareness Month! 🤟

A week and two days ago, I was in Abuja for The Big Conference honored to serve as a protocol officer and sign language interpreter. This post has been sitting in my heart since then.

It started with a DM. I saw Lois’ post and reached out told her I wanted to be part of protocol. She asked if I’d joined the community group. I said yes, but it took a few followups before I got added to the volunteers’ main group. Sometimes you just have to keep showing up for what you know you’re meant for.

Once I was in, I didn’t want to just be present I wanted to add value. I realized there was no interpreter for the conference, so I reached out to a friend, @the_signgirl based in Abuja, and together we stepped in.
Being the interpreter for that space was such a huge gig for me.

And in the middle of all the work, I met new people too, my lady connections I know will matter for a long time to come.

But the moment that really stayed with me was meeting @thewinifrednwania one-on-one. She shared pieces of her own story, and so much of it resonated with mine. I opened up too, and by the end she’d given me her number and reminded me to keep believing in my future.

She left us with 10 keys to becoming unstoppable, and here’s how I’ve been chewing on them:

1. Know who you truly are go back to your roots, starting with Genesis 1:26-28.
2. Discover what you’re made for find your purpose and unique gift.
3. Get clear on where you’re going build a vision for your life.
4. Never stop learning stay hungry for growth and knowledge.
5. Sharpen your skills until they can’t be overlooked.
6. Tune out the noise trust your own inner voice.
7. Grow real confidence that doesn’t shake under pressure.
8. Align your habits with your identity.
9. Be intentional daily.
10. Speak life over yourself your words carry power.
Out of all ten, one kept ringing loudest: Look at yourself.
Now every morning I ask the mirror:

Mary, who are you? What’s your purpose?
Still asking. Still becoming.

Thank you, @loisugbe for the door. Thank you, @thewinifrednwania , for the mirror.
Thank you @the_signgirl for being here🤟🏾🩵

@ladydynamique I recently applied for a program supporting 1,500 women, and it took me back to something I hadn’t thought about in years.

I attended Sunday school as a child, and during one long vacation, my tutor @miz_albarka decided to teach us a few vocational skills one of them was recycling, using Ankara fabric. That was my first real introduction to it, and I picked up an interest in recycling even as a little girl. Thank you so much for this knowledge ma.

Looking back now, I keep thinking: if I had followed through on that interest earlier, I believe I would have gone even further with it. That thought sat with me as I built my organization, Inclusive Core Empowerment Initiative it took me back to my childhood self, and to how something as small as access to the right knowledge and guidance can shape a girl’s whole path.

My first real project actually came from going from one tailoring shop to another, picking up leftover fabric pieces that were of no use anymore, and putting them together to create something new. That experience stayed with me.

So today, I want to pass that same knowledge forward a little insight into climate change, and specifically recycling, so that no girl has to wait as long as I did to discover it.
Thank you @ladydynamique for this opportunity ❤️Recycling and Sustainable Living Workshop

Mental Health Summit, 2026 (late post)

Grateful for the opportunity to serve as a sign language interpreter at the Mental Health Summit. 🧠🤟

Access is care. Mental health conversations save lives and they should reach everyone, including the Deaf community. Every sign, every word interpreted, is a bridge to healing and understanding.
