POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Art in our family is generational.
This project was commissioned from somerville museum in partnership with MA250

“Let Freedom Ring is a series of 3D printed models of the very first residential telephone by Alexander Graham Bell that was used to make the world’s first telephone call to Charles Williams’ Jr.s home in Somerville. Each phone box has been designed by a local artist and placed in specific sites around Somerville to mark the people and places connected to struggles for civil rights, educational equity, labor justice, immigration, and civic participation…” -somerville museum website

As I relax, I take in the beauty of the sunset, the warmth, the movement, the hustle. I see my people working, carrying their burdens with strength and grace. taken in Mazatlán Sinaloa México by @mkbc_art

One of my pieces has been selected for, “Colors and Shapes of East Somerville”

Artwork Description of Piece

As I bike through East Somerville, my chosen mode of transportation, I feel the warmth of the sun and hear the rhythmic knocks of creativity echoing through historical buildings, bustling public transportation, and streets bursting with color. The hands symbolize how we hold one another up, embracing our unique shapes and sizes. The fragmented yet unified face reflects the essence of community, woven into all of us, a mosaic of cultures, stories, and connections that make East Somerville home.

Artist Statement

As a child of Mexican immigrants, my art reflects my roots and my present. I use vibrant colors to celebrate my culture and the community I now call home. My work tells stories through color, shape, and symbolism, capturing identity, resilience, and unity. Through this piece, I hope to honor the people, history, and spirit that bring this neighborhood to life. Esto es para la gente.

Peace,
