INKTOBER 2026 - 9 RAM
Old analog telephones didn't need RAM... wires and a few mechanical parts – they worked for over 100 years!
And they still do today, if a digital converter is used.
Our hard drive was phone books, registers, etc. – the RAM - was our brain, which processed the found data at lightning speed and prompted us to act. So, turn the dial or push the buttons and off we went...
Many phone numbers remained in our RAM brain and are still accessible today. The Guinness World Record is said to be 200 numbers...
Now, I'm not one of those nostalgics who praise everything old... this is purely informative for people who don't (or no longer) know this function of "hard drive and RAM"...

INKTOBER 2026 - 8 STINKY
UUUUUgggghhh! What a stench...
.
What was so horrible stinky???
When I worked for a large company in 1989, there was a telephone on my desk... computers didn't exist yet, or only very rarely. The telephone was our main tool.
.
And there was always this strange, pungent smell...
I couldn't describe it, but I can still smell it today...
At first, I thought it was the plastic material of the telephone. It must have smelled that bad... but my desk smelled the same... so it must have been the cleaning product...
I also smelled my colleagues' phones - the same pungent stench...
I asked my boss - he said, yes, strange, but it's always been like that...
One day my office door was open - I was in the office an hour earlier than usual - and through the open door I saw the cleaning lady wiping down the toilets with a rag... then she used the same rag to wipe down the desks and my colleagues' phones... horrible!

When she came into my office, I told her she was disturbing me and that my desk and phone didn't need cleaning...
After I informed my boss, all the phones were replaced (the cleaning lady too), the desks were completely disinfected, and... l can't behold, NO MORE STINKY

7 PANIC
The children were playing in the dusty attic. On an old table sat a strange device.
Suddenly it rang loudly...
RING RING RING RING...
Panic broke out... Wild screams, dust swirled up... the children ran down the stairs in a panicked flight...
.
As children, we often played in my grandmother's attic, which was forbidden – there was no telephone, but a sudden noise could very easily trigger panic...

6 OGRE
Clever ogres are very rare...
But this ogre was truly clever:
When his fat finger got stuck in the rotary dial of an old telephone, he solved the problem in a flash. He chopped his hand off with a single blow.
A genius, right?

INKTOBER 2026 - 5 SMACK
It's not a good idea to smack your mobile,
if it is not working... or if you are angry...
Phones are sensitive beings.
Remember who all lives inside them.

INKTOBER 2026 - 4 CACTUS
.
Fraudulent calls, aggressive advertising, annoying fake sweepstakes, and much more are commonplace worldwide. They pierce through the phone like the needles of a cactus...
don't get annoyed! While you press the decline button, or you ignore, smile...
it's a win for you, like the beauty of some prickly plants...
.
(This Inktober year I am dedicating all my drawings to the theme of telephones)

3 MINIATURE
The miniatures from the Happy Hippo world – for those who don't know them: little hippo figures from the chocolate surprise eggs – I find fascinating.
There were craft kits for miniature toys, Smurfs, and in the early to mid-90s, hippos too... Collectors pay several hundred euros for hippos with color or manufacturing defects.
There was never a hippo with a mobile phone, because how could a hippo possibly delete a WhatsApp message with its paw?

2. RELIC
In 1922, Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun's sarcophagus. The inner coffin was crafted from solid gold. The tomb contained 5.400 precious grave goods, many made of gold and jewels - all paid for by the Egyptian taxpayer.
One unmentioned RELIC was a telephone made of solid gold. It was overlooked because it was thought to be a worker's forgotten mobile phone...
Today, we know that this relic was intended for the Pharaoh's communication with the outside world...

The Other Half of Light - Moonlight

Expressive figurative watercolor study
Light and shadow modeling as the central compositional challenge.
Where there is much light, there is also much shadow...

An experimental study of the effect of light and shadow on the human figure. Reduced contours, transparent watercolors, and deliberately left-bare paper surfaces allow the figure to appear between representation and dissolution. The strong light-dark contrast itself becomes the subject.

Café Paris – Music in the Autumn Mood

Monochrome Experiment
Painting with Espresso... and a Touch of Sepia Brown

Café Paris - Music in the Autumn Rain
Expressive urban watercolor with coffee washes.

The watercolor depicts a rainy autumn day in a Parisian café, where guests are gathered to enjoy live music.

The warm sepia tones of the watercolor and coffee contrast with the deliberately left-out white areas of the paper. My intention was to use loose brushstrokes, splashes, and drawn lines to combine architecture, people, and interior into an atmospheric snapshot.

The partially blurred image aims to evoke the impression of rain, fogged windows, and fleeting reflections.

The focus is not on a detailed depiction of the location, but rather on the atmosphere of a rainy Parisian café – warm, vibrant, and a little melancholic.

Sade
Portrait in Liquid
.
An Experiment
.
An expressive, figurative watercolor portrait with impressionistic and partially abstract elements, executed in a free, contemporary wet-on-wet and glazing technique.

Although "Sade" was chosen, it is not a realistic portrait. Nor is the somewhat loose brushstrokes accidental. The dissolution of forms, the exposed paper, and the breaks in the background are deliberate compositional devices.

It was important to me not to elaborate on every detail, but rather to allow the person of Sade to emerge with a few carefully chosen forms, tonal values, and color accents.
