Finished.

What a journey! Over a year of early mornings, endless miles in the dark and stormy weather and overcoming injuries all came together yesterday at the Chicago Marathon!

The first half went according to plan. Felt good and was moving well. But then the heat caught up to me…and most others during the race…my heart rate refused to settle and I hit “the wall” right around mile 18. My knee felt like it was going to explode with every step, but giving up was not an option. Thank you Biofreeze!

When my race plan fell apart, I had to make a mental shift. I stopped chasing my watch and going for my splits and decided to just be present. I wanted to enjoy the day and just “have a run”. That was the best decision I made yesterday! To take everything in that Chicago has given me during my life, including a Malort shot at mile 20 to celebrate and have some fun!

Huge thanks to everyone who showed up for me! Who did the group runs together and supported me over the past few months. Above all, thank you to Euni and Jax. Your patience, support and of course meal prep through all those grueling weeks of training meant everything. We did it! by @mkornfeind
