#2023recap part one - As this year comes to a close, I’m reflecting a bit. Year 40 was a fun adventure and January through April was full of love. I thank my business partner - God - 🥰who has continued to be by my side every step of the way as I build my business and grow in my artistry. Since I can remember it’s been a lot of sacrifice taking a creative and entrepreneurial path and I know it’s felt for years like I’m always fighting for my dreams. But there was an ease to 2023. I surrendered more. Staying grounded was my goal. I had developed peace in knowing also - I may not get exactly where I want to go but I am exactly WHO I want to be. Books and film have helped me throughout life. They are my happy place. I am grateful to God to be creating and working within that community. I am grateful that this year was also a year that I was able to serve as a script supervisor on other directors’ film projects prior to the strike. Also my work with #365daysinla film got recognized at many festivals and even won @beyond_hollywood before it’s first year anniversary . As a thank you to my supporters of @eclecticallyyouexperience I am grateful that I was able to publish #35lovenotestoself affirmations that has helped me stay centered and productive in an unstable reality and world. To launch this book in Houston before visiting other cities meant a lot. I also had the opportunity to invest time in my business after being accepted in the #uhsureprogram for entrepreneurs. As I embarked on new chapters my books helped me launch in public speaking in the educational, creative and mental health arenas. 2023 flowed without force. God showed me more of who I am. Community played a huge part in what made this year so impactful. Blessed to have met many more creatives, educators, entrepreneurs and to break bread with you all - I’m honored that we know each other in this lifetime - I pray for you and your success as you pray for me - we are in this together y’all!

I was sharing with this literary rockstar that the photo I was about to show, was one taken in 2005 at my alma mater, Prairie View A & M University . Miss Nikki Giovanni spoke to the student body and I was the chapter historian of the Eta Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. then and I was ALWAYS making sure to capture moments . This was one where we were able to take a picture with our Soror. I told her that back then, I shared with her I wanted to be a writer too. Today, that is a reality and one of my beloved jobs. I thanked her for being an inspiration and for her being bold.

I am grateful to God for moments like this. I was already pumped that I was speaking at the #sbl23 conference . This was icing on the cake - to say thank you to a great American writer, an International Treasure, a Revolutionary. I am happy I got to thank someone who has inspired me
As a writer.
As a teacher.
As a bold person.

since it’s so nice outside -
my lazy to exercise self is back walking again

Dear Wind -
please don’t blow me or my curls away
I bet you can’t see the … holding them in place

but on another note for those of you who routinely walk -
what do you walk for????
no meditation today - today it was to be back in nice weather and get back into it after a too long hiatus after a foot sprain. walking was a norm for the past 5 years - I have hereditary high blood pressure and it is one way that helps me regulate it. #TGIF by @mkwillpower

It was fun to participate in #collegeweek on one of the campuses where I serve in the #College&CareerReadiness space - Today’s focus was also about Greek life - all the Sorors brought something to share with our students who stopped by! Thanks to the students who helped set everything up so nicely.

- in the spirit of homecoming❤️ 🙌🏽 💜💛 it was nice to be able to share some @pvamu memories from my #DST diaries that showcased all the work we did and fun we had, a well-rounded experience. I had just pulled pics for the upcoming anniversary events - can’t believe how many years it’s been.

bye to a month that was serious and serene at the same time

it was a month
that reminded me
to remember

to keep celebrating family
to keep writing
to keep pouring into my students
and it also helped me stay civically engaged

On this #filmmakerFriday I am reflecting on how sometimes with or without a mentor you have to rely on what is inside of you to carry out your vision. Whether you have a big machine pushing your project or you have to be the lil engine that could - your faith can serve as fuel.

Happy #FilmmakerFriday! When making a film it definitely takes a village and we thank amazing founders like Dr. Gloria @willinghamtoure at #AframGlobal and who at the 2025 Villager Awards held in Long Beach recognized our director for the work that she did in the community . Dr G hosted the California movie premiere through her wonderful organization and mission. There, our team met amazing people like Miss Alice . So thanks to the Village!
