I used to play in hardcore bands in Boston and took a bunch of pics. #HeroinBand in the basement of the Old Cambridge Baptist Church circa 1992 which for me was the best time for that scene. by @mlflix

Probably saw and played more shows with Overcast than with any other band back in the day. My favorite shows were at the WAG but here are some bangers from the OCBC in Cambridge, MA circa 92. @overcast.hc @brianshadfall by @mlflix

Got to hit my favorite Philly venue to see one of my favorite living musicians. Had to snap a few pics but spent the rest of @stevegunnstevegunn’s acoustic set mesmerized, as I think was how everyone else @johnnybrendas felt. Dude is playing everywhere all the time in different forms so I highly suggest catching him next time he passes through your corner of the world. If you didn’t have fun at a Said & Done show, then we probably weren’t friends. Certainly the band with the best energy and best Van Halen cover ever. Not sure which venue this one is. Also nice @eyeforaneye_bhc shirt on Chris. Circa 1991 maybe at the Channel.

1.6 Band in the basement of OCBC in Cambridge, MA circa 1992. Got to see them at ABC No Rio around the same time and both shows were epic! Got a bunch more from that era that I’m finally scanning. @kevinegan738 by @mlflix

I've got a bunch of other photos and another video or two of Doug Shaw, mostly from his White Magic days. This one was from The Yard in Bkln on the Gowanus Canal on October, 28, 2007. Sometimes they’d end a set with this song. There was a nice fire going since it was freezing cold for an October night. There weren’t too many people who stuck around, and they were just hanging by the fire, so I drunkenly begged them to do “the bottle song.” This was recorded on a banged up Canon G7 with whatever setting I could get quick for video to get capture this. This was the last show I went to before moving to SF. They announced they were playing in Big Sur during my first weekend there. My friend Danny, who lived in NY, had also moved back West and knew Big Sur well, so we took his paint-chipped VW van, which he called “Morgan FreeVan,” down to Fernwood to camp and see White Magic and Entrance band. I remember running into them in the woods of the campground later that night, and they may or may not have done this song again. Danny has also since passed, and like Doug, he went doing what he loved and did his own thing. Digging through my archive to find more, and sure, it seems like posting here is just throwing things into the void, but I figure anyone else who followed Doug’s legacy of music over the years might appreciate this.
Got to see him again years later with Animal Collective in Oakland, and then with GGD at the Independent, where I gave him directions to the Tenderloin, where he was panicked about missing a party MC Hammer was throwing. RIP @wahssalguod. I hope more of the world can hear some of the magic you left us with. taken in Gowanus Canal by @mlflix

I feel it’s my civic duty to let all my Boston people know that TONIGHT they should put on a jacket and head to @deepcuts rocks ASAP to witness/experience/enjoy a special night out with the legendary @theladybugtransistor along with (my favorite new band) @giantdayofficial. Also, for synchronicity’s sake, my last post was from where it’s all going down. These pics, however, took place on Tuesday, which was nothing short of a magical night at Kung Fu Nuecktie here in Philly. I was fortunate to arrive in time to catch a few songs from Philly’s own @falsetrackmuisc. It was pretty cool to see @garyolsonmusic jump in on trumpet during each band’s set. Anyway, I’m trying to improve at posting about shows I attend, if it helps at least one person discover some of these amazingly awesome acts. taken in Kung Fu Necktie by @mlflix

Got a Pentax K1000 for my 17th bday. @kingpin_bhc was one of the first bands I shot as I was learning how to use it. Had some mishaps with bulk loading and developing but here and there you can make out a few pics of what to me was the most influential hardcore band of my early years in the Boston hardcore scene. Stay tuned as I’m hoping to find a few more shots. Seeing such epic pics from @adamtannerphoto, @kenrichardsonphoto and the late great @ct.king.town is inspiring me to dig into my archives in hopes of finding some bangers. I’m lucky to have been a fly on the wall witnessing the unmatchable energy of early 90’s BHC.

Most of these were at the 8Ball show in Bellingham. I was so stoked to finally photograph Eye For An Eye and still heart broken that the show got shut down before they played. I think I may have given my camera to a friend for one of these as I think I sported myself in the crowd for one. by @mlflix
